Hello, I have a 1993 Suburban C1500 and recently bought some 15x8s for it. My question is, what is the best tire size I should use ? I'm not looking for offroad or mud tires, I want street tires.

I was looking at 245/60R15 because I have seen a couple single cabs with that tire size but I'm concerned about the load rating. The Suburban obviously being heavier than a single cab, I am worried I will exceed the weight limit for any tires in that size.

I would also prefer to keep the aspect ratio at 60, i dont want to go any higher because I am lowering the truck (either a 4/6 or 5/7) and want to have some clearance.

I am brand new to building trucks as I previously owned a static FRS, so any help on this topic or anything related to lowering the obs suburban would be great !

Stock tire size on these would have been 235/75R 15. You also want to keep in mind that tire height that's different than stock will affect the speedometer reading and the final drive ratio. I want to say that the stock size is about 29" high but not sure, and I'm not by the Burb to check at the moment. I do remember that our other 99 Burb had 30" truck tires on it when we got it,and the speedo was off a little bit. Apparently it was a common mod when these were newer; I saw many Burbs with the Michelin truck tires that size on them. Don't remember the model of the tire but we got good service from them.

Thanks for the quick response ! I'm not too worried about the speedo, as this will just be the show truck that only comes out once a week or so. Seeing how the stock tires are 235/75's do you think I would be able to safely run atleast 275/60's ? I may be dropping the aspect ratio but I am gaining width so not sure if that would work

I think on one of our square body Burbs, Dad ran some 30x9.50 mud grips on a pair of truck Rallye wheels that were 15x8. That one had aluminum wheels on the front, but those wheels didn't have the weight rating that the steel wheels did, and we were using that Burb for swap meet hauling.
There's several members who work at or run tire shops, so they may be able to give you more information. @skylark is one of the guys I'm thinking of....

In the sizes that you are considering you are only going to find a standard load 4 ply tire. Consider a 255/60/15 if weight is a concern. Example Cooper 245 is 1753 pounds per tire @ 44psi vs. 255 is 1885 @ 44psi. Also consider brand; BFG is 245 1753 @35 psi vs. 255 1885 @ 35 psi. If you were running 35 psi in the Coopers, you wont be at full weight carrying capacity.

For comparing tire sizes.

Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
245/60-15 5.8in 13.3in 26.6in 83.5in 759 0.0%
235/75-15 6.9in 14.4in 28.9in 90.7in 698 8.7%

I'd go with a 245/60-17, if you can find them with the right load rating.

Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
245/60-17 5.8in 14.3in 28.6in 89.8in 706 0.0%
235/75-15 6.9in 14.4in 28.9in 90.7in 698 1.1%
