Hey woody, quick question. What benefits did you gain by keeping your exhaust a single 3"? Reason i ask is i just bought some longtubes and obviously have to re-do the entire exhaust system, im just undecided on dual or a nice high flow single setup.

Could you shine some light on your experiences and perhaps the method to your madness?

Single 3" is fine for 300+hp, and I already had built the mandrel bent exhaust from the cat back when I had the stock manifolds and crossover, etc. Duals is more money, for no gain other than looks. And my Y-pipe is probably too far back to make a difference because of the tcase, but a traditional Y-pipe or X-pipe exhaust makes better low end than straight duals because of the scavenging. The exhaust pulse from one bank actually helps pull the exhaust pulse out of the next bank (like a header collector).

Just saw this thread... Good work!

I wish I had someone down here to give me hands on with regard to motor work. I have rebuilt some dirt bike engines, but would be hesitant to do anything other than bolt-ons to my 5.7....

Ah, just dig in. haha I started doing intake/head work when I was 19 and that stuff is pretty easy. This was the first bottom end I've done, but that wasn't bad either.

I've also been playing with the tune some more...running good. And my gas mileage is looking better. I'm guessing 10+ for this tank. haha

One of my two new tires came in and my new (spare) wheel is already waiting. Gonna get the front end aligned when I put the tires on too cause my tbar crank knocked it out. Found a used tonneau cover on craigslist that I should be picking up Saturday. Gonna see what I get fore fuel mileage on the trip too, it should be a little over 150mi. Most of my mileage is very little at a time so it makes the MPG look even worse.

Little by little...

Truck looks good man, but I'm not surprised. I remember when you first got the Camaro, and Beretta #2 from Bstuff years and years ago when I had my 89 GT. Keep up the good work.

No, it doesn't show MPG. Mine has to be wired to a keyed hot, ground, and 0-5v ECM input (I used Pin B16). All it does is give you an accurate AF reading from 8.5-19:1. Because a factory o2 sensor is only accurate right around 14.7:1. Anything leaner or richer and it swings all over the place.

But on that note...I took the truck for a 180mi road trip yesterday and got 14.9mpg. I can deal with that. I also picked up a craigslist tonneau cover for $65. It's canvas and not vinyl like I was expecting, but it's in pretty good shape and CHEAP. I'll get a pic.
