How the heck do you get this thing out? It looks like there's a bolt under Rath the truck but its covered by a heat shield on my truck?

I'm fairly certain you just unscrew the stud. No nut under the truck.. but I would double check under the heatshield. (Mine broke when I took it out, I used a piece of ready rod to replace it after)

That's a major PITA then. The rods too long to get a socket on?

Take the jack out and use a wrench or vicegrips

should just be a plastic wingnut on top.... then just pull it striaght up...

Is that wingnut supposed to fixed to the rod?
Mine was not, so I'm assuming his isn't either.

OP - Your trying to remove the entire box and its contents, correct?

yeah, depends what he wants to do. The rod is fixed if you only want to take the stuff out. If you want to remove the box, turn that rod, it acts as the bolt to hold it down, then further to one side, their should be another bolt ... remove that one too and it should pull out. I dont think their is loose nuts under the truck, its welded in plates like your seats
