Hi guys. So I have my 98 2 door Tahoe and it runs like a top with 115k on the clock.

But a 1988 454 is available close by for a reasonable price. Im so tempted to get it but Its connected to a t400 trans and this has me concerned on a few different levels.

What do you guys think? Would it mount right up to my newer 4 speed auto and would all the electronics work right??

I know it will"mount" But want to be sure it will work right.

Any input would be helpfull.

Thanks.

Well I might be wrong but I don't think its a good idea to put a 454 behind a 4l60e, a 4l80e would probably be better. or even better a nv4500 5 speed.
And since you have a vortec and that old 454 is probably TBI the stock computer probably wont work.

Go ls you will love it way more than the 454. I did mine about 5 months ago and it is amazing in the difference it makes. Better fuel mileage and the power is so easy and cheap to upgrade.

I agree. Or find a 6.0. It will take about the same amount of work and money to go with a newer motor, and you'll get a lot more bang for your buck in the long run.

Now im thinking about how fast a 2door with a 6.0 would be...
Not true an LS swap would be alot more work and money

A 4L80E shares many of the same internals as a TH400. A 4L60E is designed off the TH350. That being said, if you swapped in an older engine you would need to at minimum get a new computer for your tranny. You are looking at a huge project. If it were me, I'd swap both engine and trans together.

When the time comes .. or money Ill be dropping a 6.0 lq9 in my ride. 150 hp gain and my in town gas milage triples. Its a no brainer.
But anythings possible with money or the proper tools.
