Changed out the plugs. They were nasty.

Broke one plug wire in the process. I swear I do this everytime I do plugs on an older/high mileage vehicle.

By far the nastiest fuel filter I have ever changed. Can't believe I got it off without kinking one of the fuel lines. A nice brown sludge came out of it when I took it off.

Also replaced this.......

Replaced the burnt out driver's reverse light, topped off the oil and coolant.

Also greased the tailgate latch and doors to get rid of those annoying squeaks.

Truck finally made it into the garage to get some love.

It had developed a bad misfire last weekend and had been sitting since until I had some time to work on it.

Found out the problem.

They look a little fuzzy.

Replaced everything, cap, rotor, wires, ICM (tested bad), and coil.

Runs like a brand new truck now.

I'm gonna tear into this thing and start on the long to do list I have for it. Plan is to just chip away at it for a few weeks until it's done. Suburban is up and running so I have a good DD while this thing sits.

Well crap, the dual 14" fan set up I had sitting around isn't gonna fit. I had forgotten how small the 4.3 radiator's are. I'm thinking I'll just cut the fans apart and run one of them. A single 14" fan should be plenty adequate for that small radiator.

Made some more progress tonight.

Decided to go full Roadkill on it, since the dual 14" fans wouldn't fit I just cut them in half, now running a single 14". Wired them using a Jegs dual harness from my '96 that I modified to run just one fan. Works great. Much snappier throttle response.

Also deleted the A/C. The compressor was toast and the seals leaked. I wasn't going to put the money into fixing it, not in this truck, three windows is plenty A/C enough. I was also worried about the compressor locking up on me. It had started making pulley noise. In goes the by-pass pulley.

What was in my heater core when I flushed it

Filled it full of CLR and let soak for about and hour while I worked on some other stuff. Then flushed it 3 or 4 times to get all the cleaner out of there. Worked like a charm.

Also replaced the Passenger side CV axle, tie rods, and adjuster sleeve.

Took it out for it's first test drive. Ran great except for one thing, the thermostat seemed to not be working correctly. So I decided to change it at my parents house (test drive destination).

Snapped one of the bolts off almost flush with the intake.

Proceeded to weld a nut on the end of the 1/4" nub sticking up. This resulted in the nub breaking off, so now the broken bolt is flush with the top of the intake. Time to drill.

3 new drill bits later, I've managed to drill roughly a 1/2" of the 1 1/2" bolt out. And I'm out of drill bits, and a tad frustrated. So I decide to tap what was there and see if it worked. Those who have experience with taps (I'm assuming most people on here), will know that the first 1/4" of threads on a tap are just to center the tap, not really cut threads. So if I tap a 1/2" deep hole, I'm only going to end up with approximately 1/4" of usable threads.

So I install the new thermostat, RTV the crap out of the housing, thread the bolt into it's nice new 1/4" threaded hole, apply Blue Loctite as extra insurance, top of the coolant, and pray lol.

So far it seems to be holding. Was a 2 day long ordeal as I had to run and get a good tap and die set and a few other things like bolts and washers. Didn't was to use my super super cheap $10 set on something like this.

Didn't take any pictures of this either. It was about 5-10 degrees both days I was doing this. I was in a hurry to get-er-done.

When it rains it pours.

Truck #2 is down for the day.

Turn the key and the starter does a whole lot of nothing. Not sure if it's the battery, starter, ignition switch, clutch safety switch or what.

Ughhhh I just needed to make a parts run for the '98. Pleaseeee just be something simple. I already have a truck that isn't gonna be a simple fix, I don't need another.
