Not uphill it won't! Atleast on a long sustained grade with a gasser. You will be in a lower gear in the 4,000+ rpm range with any appreciable weight. My torque curve is very flat but it peaks around 4,000 rpm. You can have 500 ft/lbs at 3,000 but I would take my 500 ft/lbs at 4,000. I will be making 25% more HP than you and be far ahead of you up that long hill.

My dually doesn't zing up to 4000 anymore and the blue truck rarely does. The blowers helped them hold one gear higher. 3rd is all it takes on the highway to keep rolling.

The only people that could possibly be worse with reliability (than dodge) are the Italians. Sounds like a good idea... Prepare for LIMP MODE!!!

JATCO and their CVTs, lol. On some cars we replaced them multiple tines under the 5yr/60K powertrain warranty. Made lots of money on them working for a Nissan dealer.

I have had 5 Nissan/Infiniti vehicles and luckily my only FWD has had a 6spd manual because I was against having a CVT. That 2014 Sentra has 120K on it. Done brakes, tires, a CV shaft and 3 wheel bearings. 2 of the wheel bearings and the CV shaft were because my brother curbed the car driving it. The front struts are seeping and the lower control arms need attention in the next 25K or so but the car is still solid. Still on the OEM clutch. The a/c quit cooling in the city last year. Replacing a $25 solenoid on the compressor fixed that right up and its ice cold again. Still averages ~35 mpg cruising at speeds up to 90 mph.

My 07 G35 has 235K. Mostly original as well. Needs valve cover gaskets and I had to replace the cats at 190K. Put aftermarket high flows and a matching high flow exhaust on it at the same time. P/S pump gave out at 210K but the rest of it is still factory. Only had to do maintenence brakes, tires and batteries. It still effortlessly spins the tires through first and into 2nd and gets 25 mpg on trips. I don't hesitate to drive it anywhere.

The OP should definately do some investigative work though to find out what is wrong with his truck. Should have no problem running 75 mph with a 2K lbs trailer. I had a 94 G20 hightop van with a stock 305 TBI that would run uphill at 85 mph in OD.

Holy crap, if you think the Italians are bad, just wait til they merge with PSA.

The Italians are known for reasonable engineering, coupled to ****** development )poor reliability) and no parts availability. Once you FIX their faults, the cars become pretty adequate, and almost always fun-to-drive compared to the competition.

The French have the same ****** development, the same ****** parts availability, and the most LSD-inspired "engineering" you could imagine. If there's three decent ways to do something, the French will find at least two other ways that are so crazy they will give you migraines.

IF (big IF) the vehicle will actually run and drive, it'll be wonderfully comfortable on rough roads, though. Slow as a Volkswagen with two plug wires missing, but comfortable.

Chrysler + PSA = another bankruptcy. And when it comes, it'll be a blessing.

Magnetti Marelli to the rescue!!!!! woohoo.

I have a 95 with a camper body. If the road is flat I can do 75 no problem. Hills are a different story. I can do 50 in the mountains up hill. Faster if I mash it but I feel bad for the motor. I’m always looking for more power.

So what's the towing capacity of a K1500 TBI 350 with 3.73 gears per Owner's manual? I've looked at the online manuals, but can't seem to find it.

I'm looking at my '00 CK-series manual and it says 6,500 lbs for this setup. No option for 4.10 given unless you move up to the CK 2500, which seems like 1,000 lb jump just for gear ratio.

I'm not sure how this relates to OP's question about maintaining speed though...

That truck is SO COOL!

IN REGARDS TO YOUR QUESTION( GUESSING)

the motor sounds tired, you getting lots of blowby?
Besides that I'd change the ignition system plugs wires distributor and advance that timing.
My runs away up hills after advancing my timing.
I think there is a proper way to do it, but you can just twist the cap until you get it right.

For something with that wieght gears are going to help too.

If your feeling frisky drop a brand new motor in and I'm assuming that will solve your issue.
That OBS camper is so friggin cool. Worth every penny put into it. Ciao

Thanks!!

There is only 70k on the original motor. Only thing I have done is a 3” exhaust and new cat. I plan on getting headers and a new y-pipe. Ill try messing with the timing a bit if I can figure it out.

I would check the fuel pressure under load. Its amazing how much better these trucks run at 13-14 psi than 10 or so they often came at.
