Thinking of picking up a K2500 CCSB with the 454, What Kind of mileage do they get? more horrible then a 350?
most say roughly the same, maybe SLIGHTLY less, but don't count on it being a night and day difference

Yeah, I couldn't say for sure but I'd bet if there was a truck like mine, but with a 454 and 3.73s, it would probably get similar mileage.
the less throttle it takes to move and hold whatever you put it in, the better gas mileage youll have. i had an 89 s10 i put a 350 in, i got 20 mpg highway all day..bigger motor took less to move the smaller truck. i only got 14mpg with the 4.3 that was in it..
yeah gas mileage isnt just about how little fuel is getting pumped into the engine, its about efficiency, if you pump a 4 banger in a 5500 pound truck, its going to have to work so hard to get it moving, vs a 250 hp, v8 doesnt have as much labor getting it moving, but once you are moving, throttle and fuel come in more, thats why in the newer LSX motors they have variable valve timing
Yeah, 4.3s are a perfect example of this. My friend's 98 1500, 4.3 auto 4x4 3.42s, gets roughly the same mileage as my K2500 (details in sig). There are a lot of other factors (I don't know how well maintained his truck is, I think well but I don't know first hand), driving habits etc, but it's well known 4.3s in a full size are not economical.
My sister's '09 Kia Rio, 1.6 Auto 4-door sedan (essentially new, 32'000 kms on it currently), gets roughly 30 mpg with winter tires. It's revving over 3 grand to maintain speed on the highway. Pretty pathetic mileage IMO.
