shifting question

Straight to the point. My truck, a 1996 silverado with 5.7l, will shift from park without the brake being applied. What exactly do I need to do to fix this? I didn't know if this was directly trans related or something in the interior.

Could be the neutral safety switch on the left side of the transmission.

Neutral safety switch is what controls that.

Correct, honestly it wouldn't bother me if my 97 didn't have it.
