I get 11 with my 5.0L -.-

On topic: lol, nice truck fella and welcome to the site! Wish my truck had a 454 lol, wouldn't be any worse on fuel.

Ouch! You get 11 with your 305? I get 15-16 mpg with my 305. Heres pics of my '94 GMC I call Big Red. The motor is bone stock. After I get some money saved up shes getting some vortec heads and a NV3500. As you can see she has a couple add ons on her lol! I plan on keeping it a long time. After the 454 is all road ready the bed and cab are coming off Big Red so I can POR-15 the frame. The frame is actually rock solid, but I want to rust proof it. Maine winters are a killer on these old trucks.

Nice.

Even though I'm a 6.5 guy (Best of 271.9 hp @ 3200 rpm / 446.3 tq @ 1900 rpm, 9.7 sec 0-60) and there's nothing wrong with a nice fat rat (other than it's appetite):

Out with the vortec in with the Duramax!

lol.

Lol! Yeah D-max's are nice, But if i was to do a diesel swap in this truck it would be an old 1st gen 12v cummins. How do you like your 6.5? I'd like to get one some day. After all it was designed and built by Detroit Diesel. They do have there problems, but it all can be prevented with regular maitenance. My buddy has a 6.5 with a diamond eye exhaust, heath 80hp chip and marine injectors. That 6.5 really woke up.

Well, it started out with a 506 block, that blew up (cracked #7 cylinder wall) and a 599 went in. That holed a piston and had web cracks so I said enough was enough and dumped any thoughts of going with a crappy GM casting.

So, my 6.5 is not technically a 6.5 anymore. It's a new Optimizer 6500 long block sourced from GEP in Franklin.

Parts interchange with the crappy GM castings, but among other improvements there's significant changes to block and heads. Cast by International's foundry for GEP, thicker webs, different metallurgy, thick castings in the heads, thicker fire deck, etc, etc...mine also has a forged crank instead of the induction hardened cast crank for that little bit of extra security when on those hard/heavy/long pulls.

I tossed in new squirts, glows and finished up with a fluidampr for good measure.

Lots more done to the supporting bits but too much to type on an iPhone....

Truck pulls our 9000lb 35ft travel trailer without a care. Been up and down vantage highway, 4th of July pass, look out pass, plains, east coast appalachians, etc, etc.

Gives stock LB7 owners fits when they can't pull away from that old GMT400 rattling away beside them.

When (if) it dies though, the truck gets an LB7. Thought about a 12 or 24valve, but the truck is staying IFS and I don't want to hang the weight of that big forklift engine over it....;)

The DMax is heavier than the 6.5, but still lighter than the 6BT.

Truck also carries a 7.5 foot fisher plow in winter so the more weight I can keep off the front the better....:)
