My stock springs were beehives. I don't think those are stock springs, especially when you see they don't fit the retainer properly.
Actually now that i think about it these heads are off a core engine i bought. At some point the heads had been rebuilt. They were pretty clean and had heat tabs on them.
Only way i know of to get heat tabs is when they get rebuilt. Probably some auto part store specials.

Did you do the painting or the shop? I wonder why the machined flat areas on the front of the block were masked. Were the valve covers in rough shape? I often see picture of them quite corroded, with missing paint, but mine didn't do that.

I painted it and i don't really know why i masked off the machine parts where the brackets rest other than i was masking for the timing cover/water pump and got carried away.
Valve covers were horrible with flaking a corrosion. Better now but still no great.

Yeah, nothing special but it is slightly better than stock + it is GM and i would trust it with the higher valve spring pressure of the new springs over the Engine Tech cam.
As near as i can tell and that is not much. MY
DCR will be close to 8.06
Static compression will be 8.73
Cranking compression will be 193.29.
This assumes i have the numbers right in the first place:shrug:
Cam # 12552296 measured
@ 0.050
ID 206
ED 211
LSA 118
ICL 115.5

IVO -12.5 BTDC (- indicates ATDC)
IVC 38.5 ABDC
EVO 46 BBDC
EVC -15 ATDC (- indicates BTDC)
ECL 120.5
Overlap -27.5

Also, if you look at post #77 you can see the effn valve spring is upside down. I found 6 all together and this was from a supposedly reputable machine shop!.

So they are stock springs after all, I see his neighbor fits the retainer properly.
