Hi All, newb here.
First time GMT400 owner and first timer on a forum so I apologize in advance while I figure this out. I’ve been getting by with my autel scanner and facebook for years but I think I’ll be needing some help with this one.

I just picked up a 1994 C1500 W/T (4.3L 5-speed) which I plan to daily. It’s not perfect but it’s damn close to it.

Couple of issues I’m running into off the back is the OBD1 system. First time
With one. I bought the Inovva scanner for $30 just because it’s cooler than the paperclip method. Couple days ago my speedo went out, and CEL came on so I plugged the scanner in, got code 16 - unplugged the speed sensor to clean it up a little and then plugged it in speedo works most of the time now.

My next concern is the temp gauge - it barely goes over 100 - heat is nice and warm though. Had it been an obd2 vehicle I’d use my autel and see the reading to determine if it’s a lazy needle or a bad sensor. I’m lost on this one. I did some research and know that there’s 2 sensors? So I might just start by replacing that. And see where it takes me.

Here’s a couple photos of the ol’ girl - named her Winona Trails to match the W/T on the tailgate. The big white girl in the background we’ve had for 4 years, 3 of which she’s just sat there after she did her job and gave us an awesome summer of camping and moved us from NY - PA. Hoping to have the time and money soon (after winter) to give her the attention she deserves.

What's up Dean? That's nice looking truck. On my '96 the temp sensor for the gauge is on the side of the block on drivers side and easy to change. Make sure you go to the thread with all the manual's and get the '94 stuff because they'll have the schematics and the diagnostics steps for checking stuff out. Welcome to the forum.

Thank you. I ordered the Haynes manual last night but will definitely scroll through that thread once I find it. Couple youtube videos claim there’s 2 temp sensors. 1 for the ecu 1 for the gauge.

Hi Dean-welcome to forum-you'll find a ton of useful info here and help. Idk what I'd do without all these fine, friendly people willing to share their experience with others, especially that I'm in UK. Enjoy.

Just click the link above. The temp sensor reads hot at 55 ohms and cold at 1400 ohms. So if you have some resistors or a variable resistor you can use them and a meter to measure the resistance and full swing of the needle at the harness unplugged from the sensor.
