Engine misfire

98 Silverado 5.7, 2wd. When going up a steep grade the truck will start missing really bad and check engine light starts flashing. When back on level ground it clears up. Any ideas?

If its flashing its telling you to stop driving as it's a severe problem... when was the last plugs, wires, coils, and compression check?

flashing means you are having a misfire... If you haven't had a tune up, I would start there.
