I’m trying to manual swap my dads 88 and I have a donor truck that is a 95. Everything is going fine but the clutch pedal mount seems to be different than the ones I see in videos and pictures, I have never seen this style of mounting bracket and was wondering if it will fit in the 88 or if I need to find the other style. Thanks to anyone who can lend their knowledge.

You might be seeing pics of the 1996-up style where the master cylinder clocks into a square hole in the bracket, there are no bolts on the 1996-up style master. Those are a PITA to retrofit to an older cab because they depend on the hole for the master to be stepped in sizes throughout a couple layers of sheetmetal.

The style you have there is preferable at least in terms of being able to easily install it. Here are a couple pics of a firewall from a '94 showing the clutch master and the holes for it - they're hi-res (3072x2304) so blow 'em up for more detail. (well crud, the site sized 'em down a little bit, but I think you can still see them fairly well)

clutch master still in place -

clutch master removed, see the bolt pattern

and here's the view from inside the cab with everything out of the way

Trust me you don't want the newer setup, the pivot bushings are really weak and it has a plastic pushrod to the master. Very cheesy.

You would do well to make a template from the firewall of the donor truck so you get the holes in just the right spot. There might be some dimples in the firewall already to guide you, might not be, can't remember.

Thanks for all the info Richard! If I’m not mistaken the 96+ bracket also has horizontal bolts to mount to the firewall? In one of my pictures you can see my bracket has diagonal bolts, just like the dimples in the firewall. That bracket I have pictured in the previous post will also bolt to the firewall I’m just wondering about the side opposite to the firewall because I’ve only ever seen them look like the one on the right and mine is on the left

Yes, the 96-up bracket bolts into the firewall, in a straight across pattern instead of angled. The problem comes when you try to install the master cylinder. Here's what the hole looks like on a 96-up truck:

When the factory made that firewall it was easy for them to have the two different sized holes because they're spot-welding two pieces of sheetmetal together, that already have the holes punched in them. On a retrofit to an older cab, it's nearly impossible for you to get that same arrangement, making it really difficult to attach the master cylinder correctly.

Okay so now I’m sure that the one I saw was a pre 96 version with the angled studs. So my question is, would I be better to find one of the small ones (2 pics on the top) or use the bigger style one I have currently (pic on the bottom)
