98 Vortec 305 suddenly out of timing

Same situation I had a couple years ago - was the dizzy cap/rotor. Aftermarket was junk, new ACDelco one was junk, but a used OEM one off of another truck worked. Was reeeeeally stupid.

That's how I bought my 98 for $100. They did everything but used all cheap store brand parts. It quit runnin n when I pulled wire off #3 it ran! Bought a new cap n was on the road.
