    '96 2-Door Tahoe Daily Driver

Thanks! I need to remember to update my threads more often. This one is also a stainless Gibson catback - 615501. No drone so far, though I haven't had it over 60MPH yet, and I'm really hoping it doesn't. I have a Magnaflow catback and Magnaflow direct-fit cats on my Suburban and it drones...

    '96 2-Door Tahoe Daily Driver

A better, wiser, more patient man than I would have certainly tried that. To my defense, the first one came off easy. The same amount of torque applied to the second broke the stud, and judging by the remains of the stud left inside the nut, the previous guy removed the last set of nuts with a...

    Phone Mount (95+)

I couldn't find a good option to be honest. With a mount on the switch blanks the shifter was always hitting it, and there's not really another good spot. Instead I went and put in an Atoto F7 double-din Android Auto/Carplay unit and have been happy with it. I use the wireless AA for short...

Decent affordable recommendations on brake control? For Towing anything from a few snowmobiles / quads to a Small car trailer

Unlike these other bougie folks, I'm cheap. I don't tow with my GMT400s, since I have a diesel Excursion, but I just put a new Reese Brakeman IV in the Ex a few months back. Has gain and sync adjustments and works just fine, if you want something much cheaper than the other options that still...

    '96 2-Door Tahoe Daily Driver

Another day of work on the Tahoe completed - new exhaust day! The prior owner had a custom exhaust on it. Workman ship was.. questionable, and clearly the elements were not kind to the mild steel tubing they decided to use. The rearmost hanger was barely attached, having been rusted all the...

    99 Suburban Overland Camper Build

Yup that's next on my agenda - just need to get around to caring again and find the time. Time for the foreseeable future is going into the Excursion, 2 door and the house, hope to dig into it maybe late Spring. Sure, but like, valvetrain always ticks a bit on both of my 5.7s. No abnormal or...

    2000 7.3L Excursion Show-Off Thread

In the last few months I've done more work to the Excursion than either of my GMT400s. The Ex got a new set of bellowed Riffraff Diesel up-pipes and, while the turbo was out, I threw a new high flow EBPV-delete exhaust housing, an EBPV delete pedestal, and a wastegate actuator on it. Also...

    99 Suburban Overland Camper Build

Well this has been on hold for awhile now unfortunately. Before figuring out it was a failing torque converter making my weird noises, I thought it might have been the oil pump given the location of the sound, so I switched that out and added a steel pump drive shaft. Fired it up, had 60+ PSI...

    '96 2-Door Tahoe Daily Driver

No pictures this time, but figured it's about time I got around to another round of status reports across my build threads, starting here with the 2 door. I did pull the dash and rebuild the HVAC box with new doors and actuators, heater core and evap unit. Got.. lucky? and the rubber ball in...

    Fluid leak behind master cylinder

That unit behind it is a hydroboost unit - a brake booster that uses hydraulic pressure from the power steering system for power. Common in turbodiesels as there's no engine vacuum under boost. AFAIK, both of those parts have shaft seals there. You can leak brake fluid from the master...

    Trans Code "MX0"

No idea - could it actually be 1SZ with a smudged S? I have 1SZ on my Tahoe, which the internet says is "DISCOUNT, OPTION PACKAGE" - "It is an internal code for “preferred equipment savings” or something like that, used across all GM vehicles that bundle features into trim level groups. It does...

    Trans Code "MX0"

IIRC, MXO is a general code for an automatic transmission - you should have another transmission model-specific code to go with it, like M30 for a 4L60E.

    Wire connector identification

And to also help these future people; there's a nearly identical one that plugs into the pressure switch on the accumulator/dryer on the passenger side firewall.

    99 5.7 shuddering/low power, no codes

A new fuel filter never hurts. Your pressure might be a bit low, I think these Vortecs call for 60-66 KOEO and tend to drop into the 50s while running. Generally a failed regulator causes the pressure to bleed off after shutdown in my experience, so at least your new injector units regulator...

R-134 leaks out one day after recharge.

To add some additional info to the other posters; literally the only refrigerant-carrying part under the dash of these trucks is the evaporator. Both the input and output fittings of the evaporator stick into the engine bay through the firewall, so there aren't even any A/C line connections...

    99 5.7 shuddering/low power, no codes

Any chance you have coolant missing? My Suburban had the same symptoms (plus coolant leaks, and was missing only on 5) when I got it which was resolved by replacing the lower intake manifold gaskets - they tend to crack with age and can result in coolant going places it shouldn't, and vacuum leaks.

    Another A/C Problem thread

The A/C performance at idle in my Suburban improved significantly after I installed a parallel flow condenser, a heavier duty fan clutch, and a variable orifice tube. I plan to update the Tahoe similarly. The A/C in my Tahoe just blew a seal on Thursday, so I'll be throwing a full new system...

    99 Suburban Overland Camper Build

Thanks! I got the general idea for the build from the SubOverland builds I'd seen on YouTube, maybe you've seen a few of those around, but they always had to cut down a full mattress because they left the rear fender covers in. This was way more work and I don't get the over-fender storage...

    Intro Post from Michigan

Welcome! I've experienced leaks too, usually some new sections of weather strip for the doors sorts it out. If your experience will be anything like mine, you'll find 90% of your issues will come from old rubber.

Side marker on one side not working

Also, looks like new lights and didn't see it mentioned yet: dismount and try it on the opposite side wiring to rule out a DOA part.

    99 Suburban Overland Camper Build

It's a 34qt BougeRV and is solidly OK. It cools well and doesn't use much power even with Eco mode off and holds a good amount of stuff. Run time on my 100AH lithium battery with the fridge set at 34, the recessed lights on and two fans going was an estimated 50 hours on my battery monitor last...

Tried So Many Things But No A/C in 1999 GMC Sierra K1500 Classic

Try using a piece of wire to short from the relay ground to battery ground. If that gets your compressor running then you definitely know where to look, it'll either be a wire issue or something with what's on the other end of the ground. Beyond that I'm afraid you'll need someone with more...

Replaced Dash - Need help with wiring

Been awhile since I've been in there, but the black one looks like the rear defrost plug that goes into the HVAC controller on my Tahoe and Suburban to me. Do you have rear defrost? I think the blue plugs in somewhere over by the HVAC box, passenger side. No guarantees on accuracy.

    Engine rough

The fancy tools are nice, but you can get pretty far with a $30 Bluetooth adapter and Torque Pro on your phone, at least for OBD2. Again not sure about OBD1, never had a vehicle of that vintage.

    Engine rough

As is typically recommended when things run poorly around here: check your fuel pressure. Also might be worth going over your vacuum system work again to make sure you don't still have a vacuum leak somewhere. With the odd idle I'd also take a look at the idle air control valve and at least...
