New Gentex auto dimming mirrors w compass (cheap)

Yeah, thank you for the hook up, $10 is hard to beat!! I looked at several reviews before selecting Redarc. I chose the Liberty Brake Controller which is hidden under the dash and controlled by a small round dash switch that I mounted in one of the unused dashboard blanks. It blends in...

New Gentex auto dimming mirrors w compass (cheap)

I jumped in on the $10 Kia rear view mirror (it was like $24 shipped). It was easy to install and now I have homelink for my garage door, self-dimming and a compass. It’s a nice, inexpensive upgrade. I also installed a Redarc trailer brake controller for safer towing.

    What have you towed lately

from San Diego to Kerrville Texas and back. Towed a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera in my enclosed aluminum trailer. Total weight was about 4600lbs. We drank a lot of fuel but never missed a beat over the 3200 mile round trip journey

San Diego to Texas and Back

We drove the Gemini Blue 87 Carrera with the white wheels which is my buddy Frank’s car. He warmed up his motor from a stock 3.2 to a 3.4 also changing the cams, headers and exhaust and very nice KW shocks. I have a silver 73 911S, a 72 911S/T race car and something else in the works. 997’s...

San Diego to Texas and Back

Friends- I completed a really fun adventure with my truck a few weeks back. I’m a die hard air-cooled Porsche guy and I own a few early 911’s and like to drive in a few rally events every year. This year, a friend and I went to the Texas Hill Country Rallye which is an annual 2 day driving...

    Battery Question

I like the idea of some dielectric grease and putting on the shelf. I’ll have to buy a some posts so I can put my trickle charger on it. Anybody near San Diego need a battery??? Probably makes sense to sell this as I’ll likely forget to charge it!!

    Battery Question

Great. Thank you for the info. I’ll be sure to keep it up off the floor on a shelf and periodically charge.

    Battery Question

About two weeks ago I bought a new $200+ battery from Advanced Auto while I was traveling in my truck to Texas from San Diego and back towing my early Porsche along the way. Anyways, I thought my battery was dead (I left a dome light on for who knows how ) so I bought a new battery, which did...

    Low beam headlight upgrade. Options?

I just installed the wiring harness from @5vortec7 thats been mentioned along with the Philips X-Treme bulbs and also I polished the headlight lenses using a 3M restoration kit which brought them back to new condition. The lighting output from these improvements is noticeably better in my case...

HD Headlight Harnesses w/ 4 High Mod

Yep, the ECM needs to be moved out of the way to access the relay box lid. The only other mounting option I could see was on the fender wall but I would lose the storage box and I wasn’t willing to do that. From the photos Brian posted here I‘d bet there is room to mount the standard relay box...

HD Headlight Harnesses w/ 4 High Mod

I just completed the installation of Brian’s 4 light harness. The directions I received suggest that it’s possible to do the install w/o removing the grill, which it could be , but I elected to remove the grill (10 screws) in order to get a very tidy install making sure I secured all the wiring...

    NOS wheels

I took the truck to the wheel repair shop who works on wheels for Porsche San Diego and all they could do was repaint vrs remachine back to original finish. Even though the wheels look pretty good in the photos there are a few chip and dings in the surface plus there appears to be some chemical...

    NOS wheels

Thanks for the ideas. At this point I’m only interested in OEM real deal GM wheels. My 96 K1500 has wheels from a 2003-07 Silverado and I like them. I‘d say mine are a 7 out of 10 which a few imperfections. I’m hoping to find a set that’s close to perfect. I’ve been looking on EBay...

    NOS wheels

Does anyone have a source for either NOS or pristine Chevy OE wheels Appropriate for a Silverado? I’d like a set of 2003-07 wheels which have a machine finish. Most of the sellers recondition wheels and paint them. I’ll pay for a brand new set if they exist, or if not, maybe there are wheel...

98 Key Fobs: OEM vs. Aftermarket

I just got the Boost key fob for my 96 K1500 and what an improvement over the stock fob. I’d say the reliable range on the Boost unit is 20 feet and it always works. The stock fob works <5% of the time and the range is about a foot.

    DRL Circuit Board

My daytime driving lights pooped out. I had my Indie diagnosis the cause and he said the DRL module circuit panel was bad. He called the GM/Chevy dealer who said the part is NLA and he checked other sources with no luck. I’ve also looked around online with no luck. If anyone has an idea of...

    Replacement Key Fob

Ok, one final thing to report on the new key fob. As I posted above, I reprogrammed both the new fob and my existing fob using the 4,8 pin bridge method. All good. Now I swear the range is better than previously on my OG fob. Both work well from 20+/- feet away. No lie; before the reprogram...

    Replacement Key Fob

They stated that they would send a compatible version and would not guarantee the brand would match, only that the FCC ID would. I knew this was a possibility.

    Replacement Key Fob

Received the GM replacement key fob. They sent a 3 button Buick version which is fine, although I would have preferred the same 2 button version as my OG. Went through the reprogramming procedure bridging pins 4 & 8 in the OBD port with a paper clip. Got an immediate lock/unlock and then...

    Replacement Key Fob

My truck is a 1996 K1500. Yes, lots of aftermarket options on EBay etc. I’d prefer OG so I’ll look at the back for my FCC ID and search for a match. Thx.
