er, well, a bit too late for that lol At least I can monitor it constantly without my phone, I guess

Wack. Maybe it is a van thing. I'm not terribly concerned about it because we are talking about a small block Chevy V8. I may be mildly concerned by the trans but I do not worry about the 350 at all. Besides the optional "oil seepage" feature, perhaps.

Wait is the coolant temp gauge supposed to be below 210??? I was under the impression that my motor just ran cool for some reason. I think it runs around to what the stock thermostat is, in that case. Am used to my Mercury's gauge being in the middle when at normal temperature. Man, I am...

The instructions in my case said you could do on the side or have them facing down.

Dangit. Guess I'll see when the time comes. There is always room for improvement I suppose.

That's what I wanted to do too. Luckily I had the foresight to buy some workshop manuals so finding the wire that allowed the gauge backlight to dim with the rest of the dash was cake for me.

I wish it was available through and OBDII scanner, but my bluetooth one that hooks up to my phone didn't have any option close to it. That being said, doing a clean install of a gauge like I did took just a few hours of my time.

This is what I did. The cooler I have is technically overkill for my application but since I was bypassing the stock one I went one size up. The Hayden 679's radiator is 11x11 inches, which is pretty beefy imo

4L60e running at 200-210F at operating temp.

There is a bit of concern regarding the lack of transmission heating ability given I had bypassed the saddle cooler entirely. That being said, I live in Georgia where it is very hot a good portion of the year, and even then, I drive this thing like a granny in general but especially when it is...

I may or may not really mess with the 60e. Chances are once it blows up on me I plan on swapping a 4l80e in regardless, but just wanted the thing to last longer with the cooler on it, given it was only 50 bucks and a few hours of my time.

I'll have to add the steeper rear end to the list when I finally get the motivation to get off my butt and go to a pick n pull. I take it I'll need to tune my ECU if I do get 4.56 gears in this thing?

Is there any reason you'd rather go with the 11 blade fan over an electric fan conversion? I was thinking about just converting it over to an electric fan system, although the vans have a lot less space under the hood for stuff. Then again, doing the 11 blade fan + severe duty clutch is cheaper...

That is entirely possible too. I would like to get 4.10s one way or another, and in limited slip flavor if that is applicable. Oh, and fuel economy is not a concern regardless. I get 10 MPG no matter what, and I doubt a steeper rear end would change much lol

4L60e running at 200-210F at operating temp.

The engine coolant temp gauge always runs between the first mark and the 210 degree mark, and sometimes moves up to the 210 degree mark. I think it may be due for a new thermostat when I get the Dexcool flushed out.

Hi friends, after a 2 hour round trip to the Georgia Summit Racing warehouse (With ABBA songs on loop for good luck) and some trips to and from the local auto parts store I have installed the Hayden 679 transmission fluid cooler kit in my van (shoutout to my old man for another pair of hands). I...

Roger that. I have some service due on the daily next week so I plan on sticking a trans radiator on the van while the tools will be out. Hope to see some improvements there. I had changed the fluid and filter not 1k miles ago, but even prior to that the color looked fine to me (between bright...

Hi guys, just got a transmission temperature gauge installed on my '97 Express conversion van to..... monitor my transmission's temperature. (The probe itself is threaded into the pressure test port) As far as I can tell 210F seems a tad hot although within range, but I do not know for sure...

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

Thanks for the help fellas. I think for now I'll get a transmission temperature gauge set up in this thing to monitor how hot it gets down here in the Georgia summer and then decide accordingly. I would have thought the thing would have a probe already, but unfortunately my OBDII scanner on my...

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

Hmm... Strange. I feel like that may have some unintended side effects if the transmission were to get real hot and inadvertently cause the engine to get hotter too, if the SBC runs cooler than the trans... Maybe I'm being too worried, considering GM did this sort of setup from the factory...

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

Thank you for the clarification with the nomenclature. I have just changed the fluid recently. It had not been changed since the van got a new 4l60e ~40k miles ago and while it was still red, it did smell a tad burny so I got it changed as soon as the new filter came in. Have driven about 200...

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

Thanks for the confirmation. Unfortunately my OBDII scanner does not have a readout for the transmission oil temperature so I cannot monitor it before I shell out the money for a gauge. I'm sure I'll figure it out though. Thanks.

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

I've had my front grille off and there definitely is no cooler bolted to the front of the engine rad. I may not be planning on towing much, but I want to make this van last and I'm fine with throwing some money into it to make it run even better for longer. Last thing I want to do is figure out...

Trying to identify an RPO code related to my transmission.

Hi guys. My '97 Express van has the GM RPO Code KD1 (COOLING, TRANS OIL) . This implies it has some sort of external transmission oil cooler to me, but from what I can tell the trans cooler lines seem to go directly to the engine radiator. It appears to me that it's some sort of dual layer...

A less conventional "GMT400": My '97 Express Conversion Van

I mean I got very little brand loyalty. I'm very partial to GM trucks in all their crap interior glory (Although I'd say Chrysler would be even worse in terms of 90s-2000s, with Ford being just slightly better than GM) since the family Tahoe worked so damn well for how long we had it. My daily...

The A/C compressor in my van was replaced very recently before I purchased it, but I'll look into doing that when I have the time.
