    L29 454 MODS

True, but it doesn't NEED a 4x cam sensor. Here is the whole article I used. http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/24x.html I already had an 0411 PCM and a licensed LS tune file. The only components I needed to buy were the: Coil Packs Wiring connectors Pins for the PCM I bought color coded...

    L29 454 MODS

You still use the cam sensor in the distributor. In fact you still need to set the distributor position to correlate with the crank sensor. You just don't have any high voltage traveling through the distributor. They sell a blank distributor cap too...

    L29 454 MODS

I agree. I didn't mean to say they hurt performance when they work right. They just seem to be a weak link because they fail and will cross fire inside the cap. I did it on my 99 2500 suburban. It uses the reluctor wheel and crank sensor from the L21 big block which is a vortec 454 with coil...

    L29 454 MODS

Honestly I thought the weakest link in the vortec motors was that stupid distributor cap. On the 454 it is really cheap and easy to convert to coil near plug ignition if you already have the 0411 PCM. You can buy the reluctor wheel from GM for about $40 compared to a couple hundred for the 350...

    Corona Build

The problem with the larger front axle is that it will bolt into the frame with small fabrication, but because it is a larger carrier it moves the axle to the passenger side by about an inch or so. This makes the passenger axle too long and the drivers side too short.

    1999 2 door Tahoe 6.0 swap

It was a while back. There was a lot of bullshit to figure out regarding which set of control arms to use and I believe he had to use the 2500 lowers and the 1500 uppers and then use the spindle from the 2500. The CV shaft should fit both, but the front axle will not work because it moves to the...

    1999 2 door Tahoe 6.0 swap

Even if you buy all of the 4x4 parts, the frame mounting locations have some differences, my buddy tried this in a 92 suburban and had a hell of a time making it work. Just thought about it, you didn't say 4x4, I just assumed. 4x2 might be much easier... I have no experience for that.

    Carbed 400 ci into 2000 k2500 crewcab

If you go on www.Gearhead-efi.com there is a guy who is using an old (91 or so, I think it is a 7060 PCM) PCM to run the 4l80e on a carbed motor. He was talking about the idea to make a cheap control module to run the 4l80e. You will still need a couple sensors, and one of them will be a TPS on...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Fair enough, but you always quote your vehicle which is not stock. You can upgrade the components on any vehicle and make an improvement even if you use off the shelf parts. I am explaining my experience with 2 completely stock braking systems just from different generations.

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Both vehicles are hydroboost, and pulling my trailer (around 5,500lbs to 6,500lbs) The brakes seem to be better on the later model. I'm not saying you can't make the brakes work better on the older vehicle, but in my experience stock vs stock on both my 98 1500 vs my 2002 1500 and my 99 2500...

Need stock ECM for 99 K3500

Which motor are you running? I have blackbox PCM's for both the 350 and 454. The 350 has the 4l60e and I have 2 for 454 with the 4l80e. They are both 4 connector blackboxes for the 98-99. If you pay the shipping you can have all 3 that I have.

Best techniques for finding vacuum leaks...?

I have not had good luck with WD-40 since it is not flammable, it is combustible. When I was a kid you could take a lighter and spray WD-40 over it and have your little flame thrower. This did not work the last time I tried it, nor did it work to start a lawn mower engine when I was diagnosing...

    A/C trouble

Unfortunately more information is really needed to help you diagnose your issue. Does your compressor actually turn? Not just the pulley but the center of the hub? If it is turning then you should have both a high and low side gauge hooked up. Those pressures can help you determine several...

Good point, I missed where he mentioned the year.

    4L60E 4WD to 2WD Conversion

I think it depends on the transfer case. My 02 factory had a 261 (manual shift) and it had a slip yoke for the front differential, removing it would leave it open to leak. When I changed over to a 4l80E I used the 243 transfer case (electric modified to be manual) and it had a bolt on front yoke.

    4L60E 4WD to 2WD Conversion

While I don't agree with your logic, it is your choice and your truck, so I tried to provide the info you are looking for. Now, that being said, Instead of removing all the 4x4 components you can pull the cv shafts apart and just use the outer pieces and re-install it to hold the bearings...

    Any?? SBC 400

How much advantage is an actual 400 block vs just building a 383? It seems to me it would be better all the way around to have the long stroke of the 400 but the stability of the 350 block. Plus if you have to buy a new crank, it isn't that much more to buy the stroker version...

    4L60E 4WD to 2WD Conversion

You will need the 2wd output shaft and tail housing. You will have to essentially rebuild the transmission to install this. Your rear driveshaft will now be too short, so plan on getting a new one or going to the junkyard. When the output shaft is changed you need to make sure it has the rear...

    Any?? SBC 400

From what I have heard, Yes. When my '77 blazer rusted too bad I parted it out and gave the 400 to a friend who put it in his 88 pickup. He kept the factory TBI and ran without a chip and loved it. He ended up spinning a main bearing and was never happy with the 350 he put in it after.

    Towing with sbc 350!!!

Your rear gears and transmission will have just as much, if not more, impact on your towing. The 350 is a good motor, there is a reason it has been around for so long and been swapped into just about everything... Of course maintenance of said motor will also play a factor. Keep in mind in...

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

Also sorry for the late reply, both my suburbans 99 454 and the 03 8.1 have 4.10 gears. I also forgot to mention I feel much safer with the later model brakes.

    Worth upgrading to GMT800?

I'll add my experiences. I just got rid of my 99 2500 suburban with a 454 and my 98 1500 5.7 suburban. Now I have an 03 2500 suburban with the 8.1, all of these have been 4x4. The 99 pulling my camper (5100 lbs loaded) up a 7 percent grade (not sure exactly how long, but I estimate about 3...

Extending the range of your truck's keyless entry, via the module.

I did some playing with a truck I was working on, the module I used came from a 91 c3500, but I found there were actually 4 functions you could use from the remote. Lock, unlock and 2 that weren't being used. Holding the unlock button added one and holding the lock and unlock at the same time...
