    manual to auto doors/lock

If you're doing this with aftermarket parts, your best bet is to just use what came with it, and not try to get fancy by cutting wires; take it from me that's the best way to screw stuff up, getting lost. You'll need to give us some more details and we can help you ... if you've not gone too...

Detailed my truck for the first time in 26 years!

Gorgeous! I've always loved that color ... I think this is the first I've seen, though, that wasn't two-toned.

'96 Sierra 4.3 unusual acceleration problem ... should I pass on it?

Ended up passing on the truck. I didn't really get a straight answer from the dealer when I checked back, so ... I'm not gonna get myself into headaches when I don't need to. THANK YOU to all who offered ideas. Much appreciated as always!

'96 Sierra 4.3 unusual acceleration problem ... should I pass on it?

Thanks! The dealer is having it checked out again today. Hopefully his mechanic will figure it out; if not, well, there are other trucks out there.

What motor oil are you running in your Vortec?

I've run Harvest King from our local Rural King store for the past several years, in everything. A 5 qt. jug of conventional 5W-30 costs me $10, and I use the AC Delco filter. I change it every 5,000 miles and usually have to add a quart after about 2,500. All in all, for a '96, not bad.

'96 Sierra 4.3 unusual acceleration problem ... should I pass on it?

So I found a solid, one-owner '96 Sierra C1500 with the 4.3 and 4L60-E, and went to check it out yesterday. The truck has 225K on it but has obviously been pretty well maintained. It's an ECSB, which would be a nice addition for when I need to take the kids to school and the wife has the van...

    1996 Chevrolet c1500 obs Silverado

WOW! What a pure beauty. I would be tempted to leave it exactly as it is ... MAYBE lower it ever so slightly, but ... gosh, I'd have a hard time doing much more than that. But I'll watch with GREAT interest!

New center caps for 15" Rally wheels

I found a new set of center caps for my 15" Rally wheels on my '96. There is an eBay seller (trailerpartsking) selling a 4-pack of chromed plastic trailer center caps that happen to fit the 5-on-5 pattern. I figured for the price ($49.99 shipped), why not try 'em? They look fantastic and...

    Bowtie's Christmas gifts

Thanks! I gave thought to going back to silver at one point, but the black wheels just look so good I can't bring myself to do it. The only way I will get silver wheels is if I buy the 5-hole Corvette-style rally wheels I've been eyeing. Those look "right" in silver the way these wheels look...

    Bowtie's Christmas gifts

It is indeed a DashMat ... I've had several on different vehicles and liked them all, but I have to say this one is the best-fitting one I've owned yet. Worth the $$$ to be sure.

    Bowtie's Christmas gifts

Thanks! I ordered the dash cover from Amazon. The price was reasonable, and the fit is probably the best of any that I've had. I like the look and feel of it.

    Bowtie's Christmas gifts

Thanks!! I wish I could find a decent red seat cover that wouldn't disintegrate ... for now I'll stick with the black Body Glove cheapie from Menards. Eventually I will get new upholstery.

    Bowtie's Christmas gifts

Last year for Christmas, I got new headlights, parking lights and taillights for Bowtie, so this year it was time to do a little "fancy up" job. I got a new dash cover and hood protector. I know both are pretty much out of style these days, but they looked good in '96, so they're on the truck...

94 RCSB with funky options and color

I've never used SEM, but have also heard good things. I'll look forward to seeing it when you get it done.

94 RCSB with funky options and color

Mine came with a blue door panel on the driver's side and the original burgundy on the passenger's. So to fix that, I bought a spray can of Rust-Oleum 2X in what looked like the original burgundy ... turned out to be a far brighter red. But it gets compliments - and it definitely brightened up...

94 RCSB with funky options and color

Good lookin' truck! Yours looks to be a Cheyenne with the deluxe exterior trim option (chrome grille, extra moldings, etc.) that makes it look more like a Silverado. My '96 has this, but like yours has the basic manual windows/locks/mirrors. It's kind of "half-Cheyenne, half-Silverado," what...

    Fair price for truck

Very sharp truck! I think you could get close to $9K-10K in KY if you made it 100%.

    1995 Chevy Silverado electrical problems?

The blower problem is most likely the resistor block in the dash. You can access it after you pull the glovebox. It's tight work, especially if you have large hands. Look it up on YouTube.

    TERRIBLE slow performance in snow

The tires are your first problem. We've only had once snowfall so far this year, but I put a set of dedicated Severe Snow-rated tires all the way around my pickup, and it made a HUGE difference. I carried no weight in the bed and made it home from work without a bit of trouble ... first time...

    Fair price for truck

Pics would help me out, but I'm with Jay on the $3500-4000 range; much as I hate to say it, it's hard to get much more than that for what a lot of people consider "just an old truck." That said, you could list it higher than that and be pleasantly surprised if the right buyer happens by.

"Cheap seats" ... or how to save $$ on replacing your bench seat foam

When I got my truck 2 years ago, the worst part of it was the huge hole in the driver's side of the seat. The foam in that area was largely gone. After pricing and getting sticker shock over dealer prices, I turned to eBay and found that U-Haul sells bare seat foam for just a shade under...

    coker tire 900-16 summit part#71014

Those are mighty expensive for something you probably won't be happy with. Our trucks' suspensions are tuned for radials, and they make bias-plies ride like crap. That was something my Dad rediscovered when he "got a good deal" on some 7.00x15 Power King highway bias tires for his '81 C10 some...

Things that you've replaced that made a world of differance?

It's kind of a tie between the cap/rotor/coil replacement and the new exterior lights ... both jobs made a HUGE difference in the truck. I just love this old beast ... ;-)
