not trying to be an a$$, going by the pic.
unless the wheels have been changed and decals removed, that's not a K, its a C2500 (7200lbs).
nice truck thou.

I would of though 6lugs would be 4wd. I'm still confused on how gm made a 2500 with 6lugs anyways. I thought they were always 8..... find out something new everyday...

ya that 7200lbs 2500 is a weird animal, more like something the mopar guys are used to, haha.
in the later 70s GM had a thing called the "heavy half " for GMC and "Big 10" for Chevy. Basically it was a rated 5/8 ton capacity pickup. Long bed, standard cab, 5 lugs (just like half ton). BUT....they ran on regular gas and didn't have any cats. No emissions stuff at all. The yellow 78 Sierra I have mentioned a few times was one. Funny thing, though, this truck never had the heavy half chrome mylar decals on the rear fenders. Seen a few that did, and the BIG 10 was popular back then. Same type of decals, just different fonts. Heavy Half was in the typeface/font like the square body letters that are sort of uneven on the line, and the big 10 was all caps block letters. Haven't seen one in years.....
The 400 era 6 lug 2500 is the next generation of this concept.

Good looking Olds. I would love to get it if I had more room...
Yes it is! Reminds me of Mom's Buick Lesabre Estate Wagon we had when my brother was born. 82 with a 307 Oldsmobile motor. Pewter, too, believe it or not, with velour upholstery that was the color of cream gravy (pale beige). Fortunately it was Scotchgarded! Important when you have a baby and you travel a lot in this car! We went to Chickasha, Oklahoma in that car, to the swap meet (and a family reunion the same weekend). We'd had the car for 10 days and my brother was a week old.

This reminds of some posts on the GMT400 FB page... grown adults having an argument over what the Heavy Half was. LMAO. There was a guy that posted a pic of his 6 lug 2500 and saying how he found out it was a heavy half and thought that was cool that it was. In the comments, there was a few stubborn guys that would say the heavy half was only a square body thing because of the Big 10. No dudes, GM continued the heavy half in the 90s too. They still wouldn't accept the fact that the OP's truck was a heavy half, due to it being a 7200 LD2500, 6 lugs. Then there was a guy that posted his F44 truck, he called it a heavy half as well. There were some more guys saying that it wasn't a heavy half. It's kind of a heavy half due to it having the 14B SF rear end.

I think the 7200#gvw 400 trucks might be more common than the big 10 and heavy half was. Back in my high school years I saw a fair amount of big 10s and the occasional heavy half GMC. Who knows how many other trucks didn't have the decals on the fenders? And most trucks back then ran steel wheels and dog dish caps. But I know our 78 was a heavy half because we bought the truck new,and I was there in the office when all the paperwork was done. Also gassed it up several times a week for 7 or 8 years. And it never had the decals. The dealership was GMC Truck Center, on 610 in southeast Houston, I don't think they're around anymore.

It is fun to follow the idiot arguments.

I've come to the conclusion that GM used whatever parts were available at times. No real black & white boundaries.
