I ended up taking off the buttery loose caliper and replaced the seals. They were a bit smaller. It is better now, a little looser than the other side, but ill drive it and see. Still have to replace booster and master and backing plates on the rear so give me a bit before I report back...
I am installing rebuilt AC Delco gold calipers from Rock Auto on my '96 2500 4x4. They came with new pins and bolts. I lubed the pins and cavity, and it went in "normally" on one. The other caliper had quite a bit more resistance getting the pin in. I paused and checked to see if there was...
Two trips to the parts store. The part store listing for JB5 did not fit. I must have miss-measured. The cables that worked were listed as a vehicle with the 12.5 inch rotors. I have the larger 11 inch rear drums and the 11.6 inch front rotors. The right side is listed as 103 inches and...
Just measured the right rear cable. It is 92 inches including the screw to the outside of the drum. There is probably close to 2 inches into the drum so definitely the 96 inch length cable called out for the JB5. The 103 inch cable is for the 12.5 inch rotors as it is called out so that...
Good info. I was going off this thread. https://www.gmt400.com/threads/jb5-jb6-jb7-jb8-size-thread.39647/
I think maybe there was the listing of the 12.5 disk on the JB6. The 12.5 are 8 lug on the parts listings that you would see on a 2500 not a 1500. So that would mean I have the JB6...
Doing some research on brake cables: Dorman and Oreilly have pretty good application notes and filters to narrow it down. The front is clear for an Extended cab short bed at 65.74 inches. There are two options for the rear and they are referenced by front rotor diameter. Normally JB5 as...
Pretty sure it is a cable seized after these posts and some other reading. It looks like it is not too clear to me finding the right part. I found this post. Are these lengths correct? I have a 96 short bed k1500 extended cab with the larger rear drums...
My only thought now is to put the old shoes back on to compare. Passenger side is good. The original puctures I took before the rebuild did seem to show a little of the parking brake lever pulled a little more on the drivers than the passenger side, but looks worse now than before. Any...
OK so in real life things can get busy but I have finally finished the rear brakes. No results yet as I have another issue. After a test drive and bedding in the brakes it seemed the rear were probably a bit too tightly adjusted and were getting hot when I test drove again the next day with...
Here are a few more pictures. I am going to stop by another shop tomorrow and see what they think and will report back. I do think the picture is maybe exaggerating things some.
I will get the replacement shoes from Rock Auto tomorrow so I will see if I can check the fitment for radius...
I just had some drums turned on a 96 K1500. I honestly cannot say I have ever done this before ... primarily replacing rotors these days ... but for only 30 bucks on this being my backup truck figured I would save a little. I do remember as a kid my Dad had this done often ... but was more...
