Let me reiterate I do not intend to drive the truck on the road without a tune. I just want to see if it starts after getting everything back together, then I can tow it to a shop. Not sure how easy it would be to tune a truck that doesn't run...
Thanks for the help guys. The cam is the only one available from Comp Cams for the computer controlled fuel injected 454. I can pull up specs if you really want to see. Shouldn't be too aggressive. I bought all new bosch fuel injectors from ebay quite a while ago, so it'll suck if I have to...
The intention is not to drive it without a tune, I merely need to know if it will start and stay running well enough to know it works. If I can drive it to a tuner then all the merrier. I could go straight to a 411 pcm and coil near plug, but that seems like too many changes at once to be able...
Reviving this question because I'm getting closer to rebuilding the engine. I have almost everything needed except the bottom end. I've asked a few manufacturers and no one seems to know.
I'm getting started on rebuilding my 454 Vortec and really want to put a stroker kit in it. Do any of you know if it will start and run without a computer tune? I'm also putting a comp cams complete valvetrain kit in it which is compatible with the computer.
I appreciate the suggestions but I really want to stick with what I have and build something unique. The parts to do what I want are readily available and not prohibitively expensive.
I put a 6A on my 4.3l Vortec Blazer. It's the older CPI Vortec. It didn't make any difference off the line, but there was a very noticeable improvement in the top end. It should easily connect up to the 5.7. There was an adapter harness I used which didn't require any splicing or cutting of...
I am slowly getting this project off the ground. I finished pulling the motor yesterday, now I just have to get some parts ordered and take it to a machine shop. During the pull I discovered all three motor mount to block bolts on the passenger side were broken. The engine was just resting on...
I'm still thinking I want to stroke the 454. I also learned it's pretty easy to convert to a coil near plug setup, so I want to do that also. Comp cams recommended a different cam kit that costs around a grand, so I'm estimating the project will cost around $5000 and produce pretty close to 600...
I've looked a few times for crate motors, but I haven't found any geared for what I want. The prices are also more than I want to spend. I can get the stroker kit for around $1500, cam kit for $400, and all that's left is block machining and a tune.
If you've been following my top end rebuild thread you know the 454 in my K3500 is ruined from neglect. I've been thinking about what I'm gonna do about it, and I think stroking it is the answer. The truck is gonna be a mud bogger, so I need as much torque as I can get. I've already got the...
