    Posi-lok

DTrain, I'm curious as well. My 4wd actuator finally gave out, so I'm thinking of installing posi-lok. This thread is a couple years old - did you install posi-lok and what was your experience?

    Whining noise from engine

I just checked - that replacement tube (Dorman 46001) was only $4.28 at amazon, so I ordered the correct replacement.

    Whining noise from engine

Schurkey - you were correct! Ends up this was an easy fix. Years ago that plastic tube that connects the PCV valve to the base of TBI, got brittle and broke. Its a vacuum line. I replaced it with a rubber fuel line. All worked well for years, but eventually the rubber line softened up enough and...

    Whining noise from engine

I've got a whining noise coming from the engine when at idle. The whining stops when I rev the engine, then returns when the engine returns to idle. The whining occurs both in gear and neutral. I removed the serpentine belt - and the whining noise is still there. I believe that rules out the...

    Stumbling when put in gear?

I replaced my EGR valve and EGR solenoid last night, and it fixed the rough-idle-in-gear problem I was having. I'm guessing the problem was the valve and not the solenoid, but I ordered and replaced both parts anyway, and will keep the old solenoid as a spare. Hope you get your rough idle...

    Stumbling when put in gear?

Mine was similar but wasn't stumbling quite that much. It ran smoother in park then stumbled at idle forward, especially giving it a little gas. I don't have an OBD1 scan tool to diagnose like Schurkey recommended, but I replaced plugs/wires/cap/rotor as he noted and adjusted the timing, which...

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

Uh oh, I just ordered an SMP EGV627, I'll give it a go and if it doesn't seem to work right I'll get an AC Delco valve, looks like ACDelco #214-1432 is the correct part. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Schurkey. I'll replace the EGR valve and solenoid and see if that fixes the engine stutter problem.

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

Thanks for the note. I want to do the right thing so I plan to replace the solenoid and EGR valve. I'm guessing the EGR valve isn't closing properly which is causing my engine to cough and stutter. Hopefully replacing the valve and solenoid will fix the problem.

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

EGR valve... over time my '93 K1500 5.7L engine started coughing/stuttering/surging especially at low idle. I changed spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, O2 sensor, map sensor, fuel pump, rebuilt the TBI, and fixed the timing, still the engine ran rough. Then I accidentally broke...

    Finally replacing my carpet...

Excellent! Glad that worked out. My carpet pretty much was wasted, the only other option was to paint it black with duplicolor. I had some holes in the carpet from removing my center console and jack toolbox years ago, and I wanted to strip it down and see the condition of my floorpan, which...

    Finally replacing my carpet...

Finally here’s the new carpet going in. Easier that I thought it would be. I used those divots in the rear of the carpet to guide the carpet, that’s where the rear bench seatbelt anchors go. I’m pleased with the new ACC essex carpet, the rubberized backing and carpet is just as good, actually...

    Finally replacing my carpet...

Then I scraped off the jute padding from the old carpet and reused it. It was still in great shape and better than the padding that came on the ACC carpet. I could have used a razor blade the remove it from the old carpet, but I just pulled it off as carefully as I could. I had planned on...

    Finally replacing my carpet...

I just laid it down in the same place and taped it down with aluminum hvac tape. Those are the seat bolts sticking out so I didn’t lose track of the holes.

    Finally replacing my carpet...

Here’s a comparison of the backside of the old and new carpet. Note the two rectangular oval divots on the right side (rear of the cab) that’s where the rear bench seatbolt anchor bolts go, they were key to figuring out the exact orientation of the new carpet. I cut small holes for the bolts...
