    Can you check the fuel pressure ? Mine is a 97 and it sounded like that twice, it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator and the spider injectors.

    If you drop the pan with the diff in place it is possible to work the one piece rubber gasket between the pan and block, you will need to go under the oil pump with the gasket. It is a pain but it is possible. Make sure you use gasket sealer in the corners of the front and rear mains/block...

    Pull the distributor out and use a long flat blade screwdriver to turn the oil pump shaft to mate with the bottom of the distributor. Ot may take a few tries.
