    Vortec 454 Heater Core Bypass

Good advice! I was trying to figure out a way to guarantee the leak was the heater valve-I forgot they had those. I guess if I'm going to mess with this, I might as well fix it right.

Mine has a broken clip, so it takes me about 30 seconds. :D

It was a mistake. I put it in one place, realized I put it in the wrong spot, and made the other one with intent to delete the first one. Then I forgot only mods can delete threads.

    Vortec 454 Heater Core Bypass

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. It likely won't be permanent, so I'll go the barbed fitting route. I'm going to go out today and pull all the old lines out to see if the leak is a hose or the heater valve. I DO have rear heat. At least...i did.

That helps a significant amount. It doesn't seem difficult other than knowing the size coming out of the intake and into the radiator.

    Vortec 454 Heater Core Bypass

Hey y'all! I bought a 454 suburban about a month ago, and today I was on my way to buy some seats from a guy when I noticed my water temp was high. I coaxed it home, and found that it is leaking from somewhere in the area of the heater lines. What a rats nest of hoses! This vehicle is just...

What Exhaust For A 98 5.7, Basically Stock??

If I remember correctly, those trucks have 2 cats, and stock is a 2 in to 1 muffler. And it wasn't too loud in the cab. You could carry a conversation comfortably. The only minor drone was around 2500 rpm, and was in think more from the intake, not exhaust.

Cleaning cylinder heads while on engine

Yeah, I think if it is still running mostly smooth at 274K miles with the crud, then that crud may be what is making it run smooth at this point. Thank you.

What Exhaust For A 98 5.7, Basically Stock??

I had a flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out on my 98 350. It also had a K&N CAI on it, and it was the perfect sound for me. Here is one with a close setup. With the K&N mine had a little deeper WWHHHHOOOOMMMM sound in the cab as well. Besides, that is the sound perspective we care about...

Cleaning cylinder heads while on engine

Thanks for the advice! I hadn't thought about the baffle in the valve cover being what I was feeling, I just assumed that it was a rocker i was feeling. And I got to thinking about the ATF thing last night after I posted and did some more reading, and I think that is the route I will go. I will...

Cleaning cylinder heads while on engine

Hi everyone, I have discovered on my truck that the PCV valve has been sitting on top of the valve cover loosely, only held in place by hard vacuum line. I stick a finger down inside, and could feel dust and hay and all sorts of crud sitting underneath. I know I will at least need to pull...

    Low operating temp?

Scuby, clutch was tested first thing in the morning before it was started. And thanks for the advice on adding an extra ground. I'm thinking about doing the big three electrical upgrade anyway, so this is a good time to do it.

    Not-so-new 94 K2500 farm rescue

Update on EGR testing- the valve itself moves freely, and almost feels like it has absolutely no diaphragm left. When the truck is up to operating temp, moving the valve by hand has no effect at all on the idle. I know that is a sign of clogged ports, so I am pretty sure I will be pulling the...

    Low operating temp?

All sensors and ground are within spec. Something else I found today as I was troubleshooting an EGR code- the truck warmed up to 160-170 after I just started it and let it warm up without moving. The minute I moved, it went back down to what I described above, and then warmed up again after...
