No rear brakes

Do the brakes have to be bled after doing that?
And does the pedal need to be pumped or can steady pressure on the pedal work?
I'm out in the sticks. Getting a 3rd hand (or, in this case, a foot) can be a pain @ times.
Wondering if a wedge between the pedal & seat would work.
Gotta self-bleeder, so that's no prob.

I would think that steady pressure would work and be worth a shot first.

The manual's brake bleed procedure is a little vague on the combination valve during regular bleeding, probably because the valve doesn't normally come into play, but when you look at the service procedure for replacing the valve, it says that the metering rod has to be held in during bleeding.

I'm guessing that holding this pin down prevents flow into the front lines by keeping the metering valve closed, increasing pressure and allowing the differential piston to re-center and allow fluid into the rear lines.

GM has a tool to keep the pin down--it looks like a money clip and is priced like most Kent Moore tools are--but using a c-clamp may work if you're by yourself.

Since it's supposed to be held down for bleeding, I would think that cycling the pedal would not matter so much though it may help speed up the flow of fluid into the valve and formerly isolated brake lines.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to bleed the cylinders after you get flow into the lines again. If the pin is down, though, the front lines may be closed off to pressure, so I'd allow the metering rod pin to function as normal and then bleed all four corners.

It didn't seem to do much when I had her just hold the peddle and I push it in, I don't think I was getting enough pressure that way. I actually put a lot on the bleeder and after she pushed it like 4 solid presses it like gasped for breath and then I saw the fluid in the reservoir drop.. Then I just rebled all 4 and topped it off

What's funny is gm doesn't even say anything about holding it, or bleeding the brakes.. But I personally think you should definately rebleed them, just in case... Hard to believe I never had a brake light, although now when I start the truck I get a 3 second shine after all the other lights cut off, then the brake light goes off

Yeah, it could be clearer. I chased my tail for a couple of weeks trying to get fluid to my drums and just happened to see the small note about the combination valve. I didn't have a brake warning light on either.

I don’t think you should see fluid coming out when holding that pin in.
