Hmmm well master re-build kits are in the $400-$600 range. I can get my intake manifold for $265, shorty headers for another $150. New knock sensor, knock sensor pigtail, MAP sensor, and ESC module will run another $150 and then I will have ALL new sensors. Literally every one of them, all Delphi or AC Delco.

So, I need labor quotes. I want them to use the best re-build kit they are familiar with. Going to make some calls during lunch.

All those look to be for standard bore and standard crank size, both of which I doubt you'll be able to use. If your rebuilding your block its going to need boring, probably .030 over. Your crank might be ok but that's something you won't know until you check it out. Your best bet will probably be to let the machine shop get your rebuild kit for you. At least wait till they check everything to order, summit can have that to you in one day I'm sure.

I mentioned a vortec since your already buying an intake. Just use the special manifold and a new timing cover (or put a sensor in the stock cover to full the hole) then you treat it just like a tbi, you just get to enjoy better heads and a roller can.

Yeah I'll let them handle that haha...I'll talk to them about how comfortable they are with the Vortec thing. A big part of this is making sure I get some sort of Warranty, if only 12 months or so.

I understand on the warranty deal. You could have new vortec heads put on your old block if you wanted. That way your not putting money in getting crappy heads rebuilt....

Well after thinking about it over the weekend I am wondering if I really want to drop $3000 or so on a new motor and stuff...

So I'm thinking my first step right now is to determine if the rear main seal is leaking or not. If it isn't, and the oil leak is indeed the manifold, I'll probably just get a new (used) intake, have the intake gaskets re-done, have a new knock sensor and pigtail put in, put shorty headers on it, and be done with it (well along with all the other sensors I am replacing too). Oh and get the A/C recharged haha.

The rear main seal is an easy fix. Takes maybe 2.5 hours if you've never done it before. You're also probably better off with a parts-yard intake for $25 instead of spending all that money on an aftermarket unit that won't help any.

I agree...and I already snagged an intake of eBay, cleaned and painted for $39. Thought about going up to the pick and pull for one but after time going up there, pulling it, and cleaning it, I'll easily come out ahead with the eBay one.

And the rear main is easy eh? I thought they were a b*tch? I was looking at a truck a while back that the owner confessed to it needing a new rear main and I called a couple places and was told around $800 to do it.
