Got started on changing the inlet manifold gaskets and want the alternator off and out of the way. It has a different idea. How does it come out?

I have the two bolts at the front out, the passenger side rear one and the drivers side rear one loose but not out. I've also the nut that's on a stud at the rear, uppermost passenger side slack and with that last three fasteners slackened the bracket they seem to hold is rattling slack but the alternator is still fixed rigid. What's holding it?

edit PS.
Might help if I mention it's 1999 5.7 Vortec.

Make sure the belt loosen or off. And the alternator only has 2 bolts, then use a pry bar and pry it ou . Theres bushing that tend to get stuck

What about the nut on the stud? The stud is definitely screwed into the alternator and the plate it clamps on prevents the alternator being prised out - unless the bracket comes with it which requires the rear bolts to be removed. The driver side one is awkward to get at and will be a pig to re-fit - without removing coolant pipes - which I'll be doing anyway abut surely GM didn't design it that way?

What's got me confused is that even with the two bolts at the rear and the nut slackened and the bracket rattling slack, the alternator isn't moving at all. Prising it out looks to be the way.

Ok. I see. Long as all the bolts that bolt the alternator are off, it should pry up. Also wires disconnected. Most chevys I've seen have 2. But i see what you mean about the bracket. Just make sure there off not loose
