What and how many miles a year do you tow with your Gmt400?

Both answers make sense. I was genuinely curious.
Yep I gotta agree with the others here. My trucks are relatively easy and inexpensive to fix compared to a new one. And much less complicated than the newer ones! And when you live paycheck to paycheck like most working class people, those are important considerations....
Another cool thing about a 400-- you'll pretty much always have the best looking truck in the parking lot!

Your big truck might not get that good of mpg. Same engine, but much beefier trans/dif, etc.. I typically get 7 mpg pulling that camper, but it seems more about wind drag then weight.
Wind drag does make a difference! That's what is nice about using the Burb to tow, is the trailer is a similar height. Eventually my plan is to have a shell on the crew cab, for the same effect.

Might be worse empty, that flat back is like a parachute. But nekked pickups aren't exactly aerodynamic either.

That's why I want a shell. Make it like the Burb but longer and able to haul and carry more. I have my eye on one in one of the yards but haven't been able to get it yet. Getting my new glasses took all of my truck parts budget and then some....

Last year was the big year for towing with my truck; it's also the furthest distance I've driven it, the fact it had my camper behind it was just a double whammy. Despite my troubles with it I was pretty content with how it pulled. I definitely need to address the problems before I attempt another long trip though. I'm hoping the K3500 will be a good towpig once I get the few issues I'm battling with it figured out.
All in all, last year I probably towed with my 400 about a total of 1500 miles. Most of it local though. I definitely want to do more pulling with it, that's the whole reason I wanted a K2500 to begin with.

i bought my 95 for towing, back in 97.
thats what it's done since then.
1st few years about 4-5k yr.

then, short trips only.
i live on Vancouver Island, a ferry trip to main land is about $350.00 1 way, so island trips only. Great for that.

Last few yrs, back to 4-5k, last yr, thru BC to Yukon.
All my mainland towing is thru mountians, so my RV only weights about 4500lbs loaded. never used Cruise control towing. Long medium hills and wind are the enemy.

Since my 95 is in such good shape, garage kept and very rarely used as daily, its hard to give it up.

but its tough being passed by Diesels with an RV almost 4 times the weight and getting about the same mileage.

so, i've been mulling over options.

383, gearvendor, both relatively cheap compared to the best most expensive option ,,, Duramax.

The suburban isn’t my primary tow pig but I can tow with it. I might hook the drag boat to it every now and then. Next time I will grab pics.

I just bought a 94 crew I'm LS swapping with a 6.0/4l80e basically to be my tow vehicle...I looked all around and 3/4 to 1 ton trucks are going for $7500+ in my area...I'm budgeting $5k for the build...paid $1k for the crew cab...that's $5k for the swap/interior, and paint. Doesn't need to be the cleanest thing...I usually pick up a car a year (I'm usually buying 50s-60s vehicles) and I'm tired of renting a trailer and calling my brother for his Dodge diesel!
