I know this seems crazy, but is it worth doing a Vortec V6 swap on my 98 ? I'm just trying to get better mpg.
I don't tow or carry much, it's my daily driver and only use it to commute.

V6 will do worse of fuel than a 305/350 V8, atleast that was my experience with 2 V8 Astros. You are always in the throttle on the V6.

My V6 truck ('97 C1500) has always been consistently better on gas than my '97 Suburban with the 5.7L, but not enough to justify the swap you're suggesting. It would take many, many tanks of gas for the savings to equal out to whatever the swap costs you. I wouldn't do it.

EDIT - And this is coming from someone who really likes the Vortec 4.3Ls.

Probably more of a function of vehicle weight than the engine powering it.
