How is the idle, does it 'lope'? When the engine is running, preferably not hot enough to burn your hands, take two fingers, and pull up on the diaphragm of the EGR while running. Any change?
The symptoms could include anything from a broken pickup coil in the distributor, ignition module breaking down, or an ignition coil that's giving you problems when it's hot.
Have you checked / cleaned any of the grounds to the engine?
