Nice Tahoe man, sucks you're getting shafted just to have it. Don't let America know about the HP tax thing, we would be so screwed.

They know, it's a common thing all over Europe. That's why they all have smaller cars with smaller engines. I think most base it off engine size though an not power. That's why small boosted engines are in more of there stuff. Still get the cheap tax but the power of a bigger motor...

Thanks alot for a warm meet & greet, I'm happy to have much responses from all of you :)

Also, that tax has a progressive system. Each 50 horse power tax is getting higher for 1 hp. For example for 200-250 horse power you pay $1-1.5 for 1hp and $200-250 total per year. For 250-300hp it goes with $2-2.5 for 1hp and $500 total. That's crap. By the way, the cost of fuel consists of tax too, it's 2-3 roubles per litre, so we paying it twice lol

I didn't have any of these vehicles before. It's my first American vehicle and it's my FIRST car at all. Just got driving license

Thank you!
Welcome! Just curious, do they go by the factory rated horsepower, or do they actually test the vehicle itself for how much horsepower it has?

Welcome. Awesome tahoe. I've got a thing for the 4 doors. Love them. I also would like to know if they charge based on factory ratings, or if they test the vehicle each time. In Japan, you can't even own a vehicle until a certain age, unless the displacement is small enough. Alot of countries regulate based on engine size, rather than hp. I don't even think big blocks are legal in some countries.

they go by factroy rated hp :)
testing vehicle at aproved by goverment organisation costs alot of money and registering results and changing tax for tested vehicle is almost impossible to do... you need to have "good friends" in difficult structures of power/goverment. at least it can take year or so to do it. anyways it will be more expensive than 2-3 years tax. thats crap :D nobody do this. many people here just evade this tax due to lack of strong punishment, but you can't leave country if you have unpayed taxes or even court can arest vehicle and sell it from auction if your debt higher than "limit"...this stuff results into corruption and frauds

there is no testing for vehicles here.
we dont have strong laws for vehicles in Russia, but vehicles tax is awful and stupidest thing here.
No limits for age of car, engine size and so.
By the way, they explain vehicle tax as a refund for injuring roads, caused by powerful cars lol

boosted modern engines have worse reliability, less resource, and you cant rebuild them.
also, I dont think that fuel economy and ecology is the reason to create small engines and different "green" technology. Thats just a cover and explanation to awful quality of new vehicles.

Modern cars a made by marketing specialists, not by engenieers :(
Manufacturers need to earn and make money. If your car works for 20 years and it's easy to repair, that wont bring any money. But when your car goes 100 thousand miles and brakes down after end of warranty and reparings cost really high prices and you dont know what will brake down in another 5 minutes, you begin to think: repair an old one or buy a new one without problems and drive another 100k miles till the end of warranty and sell it for cheap...Many people choose 2nd variant. Thats just business.

Couldn't agree more friend. Shoot, just take the keyless ignition for example. If that thing goes out you're screwed, and they go out all the time before 100K. You've gotta get towed, a new system, a new key, and they charge you to calibrate the key and the ignition. If it ain't broke don't fix it. My '93 ignition switch is on its way out after 20+ years of service. New one is $20 and would take 30 minutes to fix myself. It'll last me another 20 years too.
