I'm back. Day two of posting pics.

Somewhere around this time in the project I was junkyarding and noticed an old chevy that still had a 4" superlift suspension lift on it. Time to break out the generator and cutting tools again. My buddy and I cut the whole front clip off the truck and I brought it home to disassemble. Now I have a spare diff, and all front suspension parts. I took the lift parts to work and blasted them, brought them home and painted them. There were a couple of parts that were missing. Someone stole the front upper a arm mount. I took the opposite hand to work, drew up the flat patterns in cad, and had the boys in the shop burn it out, bend it up, and weld it back. You can't tell the difference from ours, and the superlift part. I was also missing the t-bar drop brackets, and kicker braces. I ordered those from superlift. Nice guys over there.

Heres the jewel we stole the lift off:

Enter new cowl hood. Its a "style line" brand, as advertised, but it came in a AMD box. Either way, it only had one small ding in it, and was $280 shipped to my door. Got it from usautoparts.net. They have good deals from time to time. This one was 20% off during one of their sales.

Took a break to paint some lift kit parts.

Decided to shoot some primer over some bondo patch work over the new sheetmetal. Still had some work to do, but better. I'll warn you that the body lines on the chinese patch panels that are for sale dont match factory sheet metal lines. Be prepared to make your own body lines with mud.

A little off topic, but still truck related. I'd been rolling around in my 2003 Ram since it was new at this point. It had 140k miles on it, and the Indiana winters were taking a toll on the sheet metal. I decided to upgrade. Went from a 360 magnum to a 350 Hemi. No comparison.

Out with the old:

In with the new:

2012 Hemi express. Its basically a work truck with painted bumpers, 20's, and a hemi. Still a burnout machine.

Back to the ho.

Finally welded in the donor gas filler area. Mudded and smoothed. By this point, I was getting quick with the welding, mud, and smoothing.

Heres a quick dumb tip. Don't mask off with plastic. The paint dries, and flakes off when you do the next coat. This seems like common sense when you read this, but hey, I drink alot of beer.

At this point, I was thinking about just leaving it in sealer. She didn't look bad.

Painted this whole truck with harbor freight guns, and Kirker paint. I later bought a couple devilbliss guns to redo my hood. I'll never go back to the cheapies.

Had a slight setback. I was using top loader HLVP guns to paint this thing. At some point, I didn't screw the cap on the gun all the way and dripped paint all down the hood and roll pan.

All you can do here is sand down and redo:

A little out of order here, but heres a good shot of me laying down the sealer. Whats awesome about a HLVP gun is if you have the pressure right, there is almost no over spray. This shot was taken from outside the garage after I'd been spraying for like 15 mins. It was clear as when I began in there.

Wet sanding and buffing is your friend when you use crap guns. This thing was orange peeled all over. I was able to get most out with alot of elbow grease. When I shot the hood and fender flares with my good gun, I only had to wet sand the bugs out of it, lol.

Well, thats as far as I got before I decided to redo the hood. I had a bunch of bugs land in the clear when I did it, so since I was gonna rough it up anyway, I decided to stripe it. I thought the stripes would be bad as hell when I masked it off. When I peeled the tape off I wasn't sold. Still not sold really, but it looks better on the truck than it did on the saw horses:

I'm not sold on the stripe either. It might look better on the truck however.
