Half Assed 97 GMC Yukon 4x4

[Half Assed]

So I picked up this 97 GMC Yukon for $1800 a few weeks ago. Its a SLT 4x4 with leather, power seats, power locks/windows.

Basically I'm just going to keep it clean and the occasional off road. I've had a couple 4x4s and crappy cars so its time for something that looks decent.


So I picked it up like this.

I put on new sway bar links so the big old boat wouldn't roll over and got a parking ticket at the same time, awesome!

I needed a new CPS in the middle of no where on a 3.5 hour trip back to college. Lucky for me I have AAA.

And last pictures were the first mod, blue dash LEDs.

So in the spirit of pimping this thing out I bought more LEDs! A bag of white 194s and 32ft of warm white LED strips.

I kept forgetting to turn off my radar detector, so I also hard wired it. I soldered extra power wires to the cigarette lighter if I just so happen to need the cigarette plug some day in another car or something. I stuffed a relay behind the over head console. I taped power from the map lights and a taped on/off signal from the nearby power mirror. Now the radar turns on and off with the key. No need to worry if I left it on.

I bought a 7" LCD screen off ebay for $36. It has 2 video inputs. I will use one for my iPhone and the other for a backup camera.

It took 3 weeks to get here, and so far it is working great. The GPS on my phone is very handy, but the screen was too small.

I haven't had a chance to use it much, but I like it so far. The only downside is the screen is low resolution...compared to the iPhone screen. But that's apples to oranges. Shouldn't be that big of a deal for monitoring the GPS and music.

I thought it was broken at first because the screen turned white after a minute of use. Turned out the 9.6v drill battery I had it hooked up to was low on voltage and that caused the screen to go white. I found this out after I took it apart. doh!

So I sanded/painted the turn signals with clear and candy/clear coated the tail lights.
