It's no different than sequential turbos. One for quick response and one for high rpm power.

I've broke enough stuff in my life without boost. Though I could imagine boost will help you find the next weak link that much faster lolI can absolutely help you destroy a motor. I've seen me do it!
It's the last paragraph that got me, complexity , and more systems and parts to fail. Usually the trade off for more hp per ci. is less longevity but it seems quite a few oems are headed that direction including in truck offering's. Smaller displacements and forced induction.I'm just gonna leave this here...
With a turbo upstream (in series) of a blower, the blower can return work to the crank rather than draw it when the turbo provides a pressure greater than the pressure downstream of the blower.A boosted blower has been done by detroit. The old 2 cycle diesels had a blower, then turbo was added. It works. Sized correctly, it's ok. However, I'm no fan of the roots style blower. It takes too much power to turn them.
In my opinion, if you want boost, turbo it. Want more? Add more turbo(s).
