Running the tank low is certainly hard on the pump.
One of the reasons we bought the Suburban we did is the 44 gallon fuel tank. Every time I leave my house it is a 100 mile trip. My little Mazda pickup has a 14 gal. tank and it seemed like I had to constantly get fuel. Now I can drive from Tacoma to Boise on a tank.
The wife still makes me stop along the way, so not sure I gained much
