Cooper S/T or S/T Maxx would fit your need quite nicely, 255/85-16 is a great size as well.

If you want grip in most conditions I would recommend studded tires, if it's legal in your state.
Here in Sweden our winters bring us everything from warm degrees and slush that freezes over at night to 3ft of snow and -14F temps, sometimes all i one winter. We love our studded tires and most people that have problems or accidents usually have wintertires without studds.
