Looking to completely replace the stock exhaust on my pickup this upcoming spring. No sure what route to go. Long tubes with 1 5/8" primarys /3" collectors seem to be what almost everyone suggests. Are true duals (3") or a y pipe/single outlet (3") the way to go? Engine will eventually be rebuilt with a goal of 1hp/ci and 400+ftlb of torque. Will be switching to 4bbl and possibly nv4500.

Even with the built engine, dual 3" is a lot of exhaust

Dual 2 1/4 or a single 3" is plenty for a mild sbc. I wouldn't run dual 3" on anything that wasn't running forced induction. Dual 2.5 can be overkill in some situations.

With that engine he said he was building would be on the edge of dual 2.5. Now that I look at it again, I thought it said 400+ hp, which is why I said dual 2.5.
But with 1hp per c.i. I would do dual 2.25 like stated above

You probably do. 400hp in my opinion the mark when 2.5" duals can work out. When you hit 500hp you start thinkig about 3" duals. But 3" duals are good from 500hp-800hp

I'm thinking about dropping to a single 3" muffler and then a 2.25 or 2.5 y. I would be okay there, but 2.5 off of each manifold is a little bit big on mine...
