I'm going with jedifan, check the ignition switch, sounds like a bad connection in your switch, especially of your gauges die when it acts up too

I checked the pink wire for the ignition switch with my test light and when I hit the key the test light comes on but very dim

found another test for the ignition switch and it failed miserably so im ordering a new ignition switch

Personally I'd get the AC Delco. Looks like a little bit better build quality to me.

I got the switch installed and she started right up! but now my TACH doesnt work??

Since you had the alternator out, check your connections, the alternator is what gives you your tach signal if I ain't mistaken

found out i hadnt tightened the ignition switch harness bolt up all the way truck runs and drives great with everything working
