I've been around around a long time and seen a lot of failures. If I remember correctly @df2x4 smoked one behind a stock v6.

Nope, mine was a local builder. I've heard plenty of horror stories about Monster, though.

I'm certainly biased as I've had a 1/2 ton with a 454/TH400 setup and absolutely adored it. The 400 stood up to it's constant abuse and never missed a beat. I'd go for that if you haven't already bought the 700R4.

4l80e will handle abuse pretty much as well as the th400 and have OD though, definitely worth the extra effort.

Yeah but he's going carb'd with it so I'd imagine getting the TH400 to play nice with the engine would be a ton easier than trying to get a 4L80E to. I think TH400's go for much cheaper than 4L80E's as well.

I can't argue those two points, but I still think the 4l80e would be worth the work.
