motors run on math and all the principle apply across the board. you need to build a proper COMBO for it to work in YOUR application.......heads, cams, gearing, weight, riding style, geography and elevation all play into it......mismatched **** gets you expensive garbage.

I could not have said it any better.

interesting thread.

for the last of sbc, i would not go smaller than the 64cc gems already bolted on.
..and that 350 is damn hot.

I have found vortec trimming the max -25% to an FPR problem. it only reveals, they got it tuned to as far as it will go.
5800rpm and an old sbc is the end of the world.

they are NOT lacking fuel.
you want nascar kinda 7500 rpm crazy.. just go LS.

my last classic build was 1996.
that was first year of vortec.
even the vortec 305 passed some classically built 350s and the wheezing bellowing carbs.
I never built another one.

for me to go 350 again, one for the gipper.. I'd buy the blueprint 2 bolt full wets sleeve 350 and make it look identical to a factory 96-99.. little bit of cam.
just reel in what ya got with a cam, shift all over to 5600 or so.
the foot pounds is the mover. HP is just for entertainment.

I just turned 45 the other day. Be careful with replies. :)

visit comps site , if you go to their dyno section you can see what the various cams will produce with various parts. great tool, I used and decided on a 260HR, I wont be at 400 but the dyno will tell in a few weeks wqith any luck. I am looking for 325 with 375 torque

all the ****** motors i've built i keep saying the same thing...........run her on the street and see how she feels.......a dyno is TOOL......period.

assholes will....and will ALWAYS try to ruin a good time......a street truck sure don't need all this MAX performance crap....

think about what you NEED.....not what er stupid ego thinks.....when i finally figured this out i was WAY ahead of the money....and that took 30 years........a cute ass don't count.......that ALWAYS cost somewhere, somehow and someTHING

HI Bill, You seem like a smart guy , what's your thought on Dual Plane vs. Single Plane in a TBI setup ? We all know the basics of the two but im in a debate on another board , i have my reasons for dual plane and I think im justified considering I dont need stupid rpm's , I just want low end grunt.

and like you said I want it to "feel" good... I don't need dyno numbers , my builder however likes to see the fruits of his work and he is always testing different items along the way.. 400hp means **** to me..personally

the dual plane is already on it, so it doesn't really matter...

thanks, but for sure i'm not smart......i just have an expensive education......wisdom comes from experience and experience often comes with making bad decisions......i've made lots of bad decisions....LOL

before my '90 K/5 rotted out from under me i was researching a rebuilt on her 350....it was also my first feulie and that was like Star Trek **** to me....so i had to learn.

this is what i was seriously considering:
http://tbichips.com/?page_id=115

but i had my eye on the Edelbrock TBI dual plane too....possibly flow matched police injectors.

of course coming from a STROKED Harley past i've always been enamored with a 383......longer stroke, more swept volume and higher velocity ports makes for good low end torque.

i's say you made the better choice

PS....of course a before and after dyno session is great. everyone likes to see the results and where improvements can be made......tuning is probably the most important thing to do.....now i need to tune MY truck, but i can't afford to pay attention at the moment.

The computer cannot think past ~5800. It has nothing to do with any of the hard parts in the engine...except for maybe the intake manifold. The vortec engine is detuned for longevity. Rich fuel mixture, torque management, and all of the vital sign sensors are there to try to keep the thing going past a quarter million miles. I'll say less about the 4L60E, which derived from the 700R4 which was designed to run behind 6 cylinder engines.

The fuel system will support a 400 horsepower build recipe, but this is a 400 horse motor that gets it done before 6000 rpm.

The warmed over carbed 350 in my Chevelle propels that car WAY faster than the warmed over vortec 350 in my suburban. I assure you of that.

I'm not sure I agree on the longer stroke having much to do with the output increase of a stroker engine. I'd rather have bigger bores and shorter stroke. This is just taste and preference.

Fuel injection is supposed to like single planes better than dual planes.
