Production of the original small-block began in the fall of 1954 for the 1955 model year with adisplacementof 265cuin (4.3L), growing incrementally over time until reaching 400cuin (6.6L) in 1970. Several intermediate displacements appeared over the years, such as the 283cuin (4.6L) that was available with mechanicalfuel injection, the 327cuin (5.4L) (5.3L), as well as the numerous 350cuin (5.7L) versions. Introduced as a performance engine in 1967, the 350 went on to be employed in both high- and low-output variants across the entire Chevrolet product line

They round for liter displacement. If its 5.657 liters they call it a 5.7 mot of the time. Typically a liter designation covers about a 10 cubic inch span in either direction. The newer (323) 5.3s have a different bore/stroke than the older 5.3s (327), but share a similar displacement range

Case in point to this particular thread, the early Chevy 5.0s were 302s, then punched out a little more into 305s, while Ford has the 302 5.0, and Pontiac has the 4.9L 302 (they called it a 301 to avoid being compared to the Ford 302, but was actually above 302 CI)
