I read the first couple of pages and if I unserstood it correctly, off the shelf are not, but a custom one is
Yeah that's the thing with chips, some people swear by them, and others say it's a waste. Me personally, I won't pay the money unless I see some proof of gains that are worth the money spent. I'd rather put my money towards a new cam and heads.

That happens with just about evrything.

Heard that, especially with people that are clueless about vehicles. Had a guy I went to high school with who claimed that adding some coolant to his radiator gave him more horsepower. Such an idiot :nono:

A new cam and heads will make a modified chip a necessity. On a stock engine there is likely little to gain...but go swapping a cam, heads or change in CR, etc and it is a must. The computer will compensate for some minor changes, but not big ones. It will absolutely need recalibration.

I will post up later, but there is a lot you can do with TBI hardware. The EBL is nice if you do not have an e-automatic. The 94-95 trucks have the most desireable TBI PCM as it has a high baud rate (great for datalogging), can run an E-auto, and they can be converted to run 8 injectors for a MPFI set up.

Case in point. My 95 has the 16197427 PCM and it will be set up to run a SBC 406 with a Holley Stealth Ram induction. This engine will make over 500 TQ and HP should be high 400s-low 500s.

Check out moates.net for the hardware and software along with thirdgen.org for tuning info.
