I know of a rolling '97 k2500 sub that is minus an engine/tranny. It is a GT5 and G80. Cheap. In Manassas, VA.
Mama would kill me if I brought home anther carcass. But what's cheap. Manassas is only a couple of hours away. It should have Hydro Boost as well then right?

Yes on hydroboost. I have lots of pics.

I understand completely. I promised the wife that any truck parked here will be able to move under it's own power, so I just keep tabs on where good carcasses are.

Also checking the RPO's on another one that is an hour closer to you... a '99 K2500 sub minus a tranny (rebuilt but not installed).

There's one fairly near but somebody is interested.... Its at least listed as parts. Some of these folks are hard to get a picture of the rpo sticker out of. All I have to search is fb market, no Craig's list at all in WV. it seems.

So further searching proves my drive line swap to not be a good idea. 2500 sub = 8 lug, non compatible front differential case and upper control arms.

Any thoughts on my motor question?

I don't think my supposed to run well motor did. One lifter had come apart. The black as tar oil and drain magnet full of stuff doesn't look too promising either.

General concensus is the motor should run fine with the stock pcm and tune. Although a lot of umph will be available with a custom tune. Research has shown me inexpensive options for both hardware and software. Looks like at some point an L31 0411 from a van will be in my future. A number of people I've chatted with say that once you dive in it's not that difficult, and I have a laptop running windows XP in the closet. Actually looking forward to giving it a try. That will be a while however.

Played with the spare motor, put the flywheel on as suggested and yay it's not stuck. The Suburban sold so had some extra coin. Till the rear locked up on the K1500 yesterday. Par for the course I guess. It seems like every time I get a little project money something breaks.

The pickups home. After further thought, and the fact it rolled right off of the rollback backwards, it's a brake issue. Sunny but a little chilly tomorrow that's my repair window.

Pulling in the drive tonight I noticed what I thought might be frost on the Tahoe windshield. Unfortunately it's condensation. Another thing to figure out.
Any ideas on where to look?

If you haven't already, put a little dab of silicone under the head of this one cowl screw on the passenger side. That screw pokes through above the inlet for the blower box and will leak water into the cab through there if water gets past it. Picture of said screw in the second post of this thread:
