The C3500 that my junkyard 80E was pulled from had over 300K miles on the cluster. No idea if this transmission was original to the truck or not, but the level of dirt and grime was consistent with what was present on everything else. Fluid was nice and fresh though.

I need to visit your all's junkyards as the ones here in Vegas suck - no 4L80Es to be found...folks are paying over $500 for a rebuildable core (not a known, good unit).

The 4L80E is a much more robust trans than the 60 and I've also seen them come in at 250-300+ thousand miles and only the 3-4 pack and bushings were worn/shot. Maintenance is everything also - If you've been taking care of them then they will definitely last.
I have seen them with only a worn reverse band as well. Drive forward all day and no reverse.

I lucked out on both of my units. The one in the 97 van had 110K and the one in the 99 Tahoe had 120K. Fluid was clean in both.

I paid $500 for a 2000 3500 van a couple of years ago that I ended up towing to the shop, installed a spare PCM and crank sensor on and it fired up and drove around the shop parking lot.

Yep, see that too w/the worn l/r piston o-rings...Quite a few 4L80Es have come in w/Transgo shift kits where they're partially or totally burnt due to that stupid relief valve mechanism either sticking or where whomever drilled the hole in the VB, drilled it ob-long, lol.

ETA: Forward drums where the input shaft lip seals cut grooves into the bore eventually burning up the forward clutch pack.

Have you rebuilt any 4L80Es?

I have built a few of them. Done far more 700r4/4L60Es though. More of a Performance/Engine/Tuning/AC guy here though.

Cool...they're not too bad and very inexpensive to modify for performance....only thing I really do beyond the small stuff is a billet rollerized forward hub for anything more than about 500-550HP. Between rollerizing the rear of the case, dual feeding direct clutch internally, drilling spacer plate feed holes and otherwise keeping clearances where they need to be, it's fairly straight forward...I never use shift kits for them...replace all bushings, usual stuff plus electronics and a few choice Sonnax parts for the pump and valve body and that's it...
