Yeah,I've never been able to calculate the optimum tube length either but I failed algebra when I told the teacher that pi are round,cornbread are square.

Are you dyno testing your dirt bikes?

Here's another site that has a tube dimension calculator for us mathematical cavemen;

When my 83 G20 van was small block powered it had the old design tri-ys. The collector is nearly even with the 700r4 crossmember. Very noticable low-mid range torque gains even at part-throttle. 1-5/8" to 2" to 2.5" pipes.

What you call tri-ys we in the UK call 4 into 2 into 1 and here too they are noted for being better for low/mid range torque than 4 into 1s. Noticeable difference though is for 4 cyl engines, the middle two cylinders are paired and the outers to each other. Low/mid range torque is more relevant for a small capacity 4 cylinder motor I guess.

On the subject of headers ... Someday when tuning a C8 is more easily done, I want a set of 180 degree headers and 8 O2 sensors on my vette for individual cylinder tuning. GM could have taken a page from the Ford GT, but they cheaped out.

No other reason than I love the sound. Just buy a Z06, right?

A friend of mine ran a late model stock car back in the early 80's with 180deg headers that dumped out the right side. Ran good and sounded pi$$ed off. Every time he came down the front straight you would see the spectators put their hands over their ears.

Man, those tri y’s are expensive! Has anyone had any noticeable gains by porting the stock manifolds?
Yes! You can improve the flow of iron logs. Port matching will give you the largest gain and removing any casting flash helps. Manifolds are not very thick so that's going to limit how much you can open them up at the ports. If you do grind out the insides of the manifolds make sure you put your splash shields back on your inner fenders. Splashing through a mud puddle will surely crack them.

How would splashing though a puddle crack the manifolds?
