I got on my favorite website to waste money on and ordered all the new stuff for the Sonoma.

Now I need to go to the pull a part to get a good core support and hood latch/ grill mount. Want do y’all think about doing the hood, grill and bumper cover in satin or matte black?

The guy I got the Sonoma from said it has a 4l60 with the large output shaft. I have never heard of such a thing. Anyone have any idea what he’s talking about. I was under the impression all 4l60s had the same output size and the 4l80 was the one with a larger shaft.

From my Pick-a-Part notebook.
Works better than the #oldfartmemory !
It's an actual book. Which I write things in.
Keep a file in a phone? There's no smart-ass 15 year olds around here to show me how.

There are more than a few changes/differences to the 4L60E over the years.
One piece case = early. Looks like a 700R4. But without the TV cable.
2 piece case = later.
IIRC, the break was '97/'98?
Also, there's differences between...
Bell housing bolt patterns.
Speed sensor locations. '93-'95 ('96 Vette) on driver side tailshaft. Later moved to passenger's.
V6/V8 diffs. (Some) = The torque converter is different as well as the valve body and front pump body to accommodate the larger size engine and shifting needs of the V-8. Also, the V-8 transmission has an extra friction and an extra steel in the low clutch pack to handle the V8's increased torque load.

4L60E/4L65E/4L70E
They can't be differentiated from the outside.
The 4L65/70E shares the same exterior parts but have stronger internals such as 5 pinion planets compared to 4 in the 4L60E.
4L60E uses a 6.5" depth bell with 6 bolts for non gen 3 LS applications and a 7" depth bell with 7 bolts for LS applications.
The 4L65E/70E uses a 7" depth bell and 7 bolts.

They also have different input shafts and torque converters.
4L60E's uses a 298mm input shaft for non LS and a 300mm input shaft for LS applications.
4L65E/4L70E uses a 300mm input shaft and converter designed for LS applications only.

All of the V8 4L60/65/70E upgraded internal parts can be transferred into a V6 60E.

My 99 GMT 800 4.3 4L60e was the 300 mm input shaft. It even had the 12 o'clock bell housing bolt hole, and course, it was empty because the 4.3 (same as the 5.7) doesn't have it.

From what I found online, on that generation of trucks they dropped the 298 mm altogether. I gathered the 4.3, 4.8, 5.3 transmissions were all the same and interchangeable.

I don't if/how that applies to the S10 trucks though.

...anyone know of a spray paint that will hold up on these single headlight grilles?
Feather. Scuff. Degrease. Hit it with SEM's adhesion promoter, then spray it with this...

Or this...

There's a couple of other brands, but these are the one's I'm familiar with.
Just use the same-brand adhesion promoter. Different formulations between the two can cause probs.

I use this stuff on everything.
Either as an accent or to make things disappear. Want to hide something in plain sight? Paint it black.
Works really well on custom stuff. Console trim parts. Dash & door panel pieces. Seat frames & tracks. Underhood detailing. Suspension parts. Outer mirrors. Door handles.
Oh yea...bumpers too! But not chrome ones. No paint really works on that.
Neither flat nor flashy. Little more shine than a matte finish.
Bodyman/painter bud once called it a 70° gloss.

It's what my '98's bumper is done with.
Hard to take pix of black trucks but you can see that it does have a kinda-sorta shine, but not any real reflective depth.
Done almost 20 years ago. No chips. No scratches. Never had to touch it up.
Tuff stuff!

What do y’all think should I gather up all the side trim and do side trim or delete it? I’m on the fence about it. The truck will be redone in satin black.

I like trim, as it often makes the vehicle look more complete. I think deleting it gives a "quick paint and too lazy to put it back look", to me. The exception would be if it was quite damaged/missing, or maybe just ugly/not-done-well to begin with.

Mini-rant/un-popular-opinion warning:
I'm definitely not a remove all emblem/trim and hide the brand guy. I see cars (I'm not as familiar with cars) that have been "debadged", and I have no idea what they are. That doesn't make me think "Ohh exotic". It makes me think, something more like, "oh look, a generic car/appliance", and then when it's treated (wheels/body-kit/whatever) like it's something special, it looks like someone bought a new toaster from walmart, waxed it, put a custom cord on it, and took it too a toaster and blender show.

I have been leaning toward side trim and the fender badges. I’m planning to install a 73-74 Chevy grille with bowtie but I’m going for a race truck look and I’m installing a roll pan so I don’t know if all that works together and looks good.

The first truck is glorious imho. I want my ‘94 to have a similar stance and look. I think black paint can pull off the “no trim” look a little better in my eyes. It looks intimidating when done correctly.
