I'm running a Hypertech 160* and all I have done is a Hypertech Handheld Programmer. I'm sure you will be fine

I run a 160 because of my motor build in my 97. The reason I run it is to help prevent detonation. If you want to run a 180, it will not need to be re tuned

the factory one is 185 or 195, 180 isn't enough difference to pay for a tune.

180 in my TBI still allows closed loop, so no retune. Runs right at 185.

I run a Hypertech 180 degree thermostat with a Hypertech 360202 handheld programmer installed.
The previous owner installed the programmer. I never bothered to remove it. He ran it with a 195 degree thermostat.
I installed the 180 thermostat. The engine used to fall flat right before the trans shifted (pulling timing out?), now it pulls hard all the way to the trans shift points.
I live at 5000 feet plus altitude so I can get away with the Hypertech tune.
If I ever drive my truck to anywhere that's at sea level, I may have to go back to the stock tune or run 91+ octane.
