Tried to capture the same moment PlayingWithTBI showed on page 2 of this thread. 2nd gear, accelerating. After adjustment, Knock Retard is in 4-6 range instead of 7-8, Spark Advance looks like it follows a cleaner line along with the RPMs. I don't know what this information means. But while...

Adjusted the timing to 0* after work today. Took it for a drive and it sounded similar as before. Datalogged a drive, cruised 55mph and 60mph, let idle for a couple mins and stopped recording.

I have not reset the timing, the timing light had to go back to the shop and we didn't have time for me to run and get a crow's foot socket to reach that bolt under the distributor. Hoping to in the coming days here. Should I set it back to 0 degrees? Could there have been a reason a previous...

The timing light friend mentioned he's seen the gear at the bottom of the distributor wearing on these trucks- would that cause (or add to) any of these issues?

Alright, got a buddy with a timing light to help out. I took a single frame from a video taken during the light test so it's a little over-exposed, but you can still see the mark in relation to the notches. Looks like its at 7 degrees (advanced?) When he set his timing light to 7 degrees it...

In the meantime, would it be possible the timing chain is stretched at all, throwing off the spark timing? Original owner up to 90k miles and sold in 2019 used it for pulling a fifth wheel camper.

I haven’t. I don’t know how to do that so I’ll do some research. Thanks Scooter

There was a ticking sound that we thought might be rods, and we manually adjusted the rockers which took care of the ticking.

Yes, the 7427 I think. So I should maybe start by checking exhaust connections from the motor and motor mounts? Also, could I take a multimeter to the knock sensor to ensure it's functioning correctly? Thank you!

Would it have anything to do with the head gasket job the previous owner had done 1-2 years ago? Valve guide seals were replaced as well.

The plugs didn't look super offensive when we removed them, some white ash type substance, and one had a flake of something on the porcelain. I thought I took a picture but I guess I didn't unfortunately. I can pull some tomorrow and see how the new ones are looking and add a picture. We'd like...

It is, and it was worse when I first got the truck a few months ago. I believe it is burning it as there are no drops under the vehicle and under the motor only has a very thin wet layer. Using STP conventional 5w-30.

Hello, 1995 Chevy K2500 5.7 350 TBI with 4l60e trans. 131k miles. I recorded a data log today on tuner pro on a loop from the house, and four short stretches going 55, 60, 65, and 70mph. I'm asking anyone who is willing if they'd be able to take a look and see if anything is out of normal...

    1995 GMC K2500 engine issue?

5W-30 conventional oil. I'll have to check how I can verify the pressure....I'm not sure how to go about that. I'll check on it! I know the temp gauge also reads low when at normal temps. Thanks guys

    1995 GMC K2500 engine issue?

Sorry for the delay, I know it’s not what you’re asking but I’ll report back after I drive back home. I know this morning on a cold start (14°F outside) I was at ~65psi for the 7-10mins I idled. At 60mph I was around 75psi or pretty close to maxed out (top end of gauge is 80). At destination...

    1995 GMC K2500 engine issue?

I've been experiencing the same issue- ticking goes away at 1500 rpm. Same truck, 1995 K2500 5.7 V8 350 tbi. Adjusted the valves yesterday and the ticking has gone away at highway speeds with cruise, but still present at idle. Did you ever find the answer? Thanks
