    LS1 transplant

I'm planning a similar swap later this year once my funds are in line. One question though: if you have a matching ecu and engine, why the need for a custom harness? So far this and a rear end are my only hangups on my plans.

    88-98 Bucket seat alternatives

I put 5th Generation Camaro Buckets in my truck. There's at least as much room as the bench had, and it's got the added bonus of leaning back. My process: pull the bench out, remove the brackets from the bottom, and disassemble until you have the two side brackets (the parts that bolt to the...

    Heater core removal instructions needed

It's super easy. Just remove the hoses from the core (which is sounds like you already did), remove the heater core cover inside the cab, remove heater core, replace with new unit, install cover, install hoses. I don't recall entirely, but there may be a couple of bolts that hold the heater...

    While the intake is off...?

Thanks, I forgot to reply back, but I found the answer after much research on Google :D
  5. Q

    What part is this?

As I shop for this, I'm noticing that the switch (as all the parts stores call it) seems to screw onto the stalk that comes out of the engine. Is there a way to check this stalk and make sure that its o rings or gaskets (whatever it uses) are sealing properly?

    What part is this?

I took it on a tiny camera :D Actually, if you click it, it'll go full size which is about 600x800. Its actual size was waaaay to big. Thanks for the info. Since my oil pressure gauge reads wonky, I think I'll replace it and hope for the best.

    What part is this?

    Posted it in an edit.

    What part is this?

Sorry, no pic right now, but it's on the back of the block, just behind the intake. It comes up out of the block and has an electrical plug of some sort. I'm guessing a sending unit for something. It has oil on/around it, and I want to make sure it's not leaking, whatever it is. If this is...

    Replacing Spark Plugs

Awesome! I'm glad to hear you went through emissions ok. I'm eventually going to have to put mine through Colorado emissions, and I'm a tad worried.

    Replacing Spark Plugs

Good luck man, let us know how it goes.

    Replacing Spark Plugs

I just checked YouTube, and this guy shows extracting a plug with an easy out. Skip to 3:30...it's full of crap, but that part seems useful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m85Zl1z5Y-k

    Replacing Spark Plugs

So the entire electrode end broke off inside the block? Is there any sticking out?

    While the intake is off...?

So I pulled out my FelPro gaskets for the intake and realized that the rear coolant ports are almost entirely blocked on the gaskets (there's a small hole), but the ports are open on my block. Is this correct? I had the engine rebuilt by an engine shop about 8 years ago, so I don't remember...

    While the intake is off...?

Well, I had to buy a pry bar, but I finally got the intake off last night. Besides some rust in the coolant ports, it didn't look too bad. Some crap that was around the edges of the manifold fell into the engine, so I'll be taking a shop vac to it.

    Starter problem

I switched the entire unit. I'm fairly sure everything was tight, but I'll double check. Thanks for your help.

    Starter problem

Every so often (and not very often at all), my starter doesn't work. 95% of the time, my truck will start right up, and start strong to boot. The other 5% of the time, I turn the key and nothing happens. All the other electronics are fine (lights, radio, gauges), but the starter doesn't so...

    A/C Compressor Replacement

Along the same lines, what keeps us from using all components from newer, ostensibly better (and cheaper) model years? I look at replacement compressors, etc for the GMT400 then compare with NBS and NNBS, and the price difference is similar to what Bump is talking about. If memory serves me...

    While the intake is off...?

Good point on that fitting. It's definitely a piece.
  19. Q

    When it rains, it hesitates

I believe he means the cap and the rotor, not the distributor itself. Caps cost between $10-$25 from NAPA (at least around here).
  20. Q

    While the intake is off...?

That may very well be. I'll check it out and see what it is, but in the meantime, I'm more concerned with my rusted manifold bolts and getting everything squared away. I'll make sure to post back about what that little tube was.
  21. Q

    While the intake is off...?

Yes, it's some tiny plastic tube (1/16ish) that runs from the throttle body to one of the AC hoses. I didn't pay too much attention to it since my AC doesn't work. At this point, I'm looking into plugging it. I'll deal with it when I rebuild the AC system.
  22. Q

    While the intake is off...?

Thanks everyone, I'll leave 'em alone. I got everything stripped tonight and just have to pry off the intake. I forgot to post the reason I'm doing this- I've got a bad oil leak that seems to be coming from the gaskets, and I'm losing coolant. Everything I've checked has pointed me in this...
  23. Q

    While the intake is off...?

Not that I'm aware of. What would I be listening for if there was noise?
  24. Q

    While the intake is off...?

I'm removing the intake manifold to replace the gaskets, and was wondering if there was anything I should do while I'm in there. I was thinking about pulling the valve covers to take a look see- perhaps a valve adjustment? I read the thread concerning this and will likely do the cap...
